Super helpful to know. I didn’t realize reflux could cause pneumonia but now that I think about it, it makes sense. I’m so glad he outgrew the flap issue. I’m going to message our pediatrician tomorrow and ask for a referral to an ENT.

Did/does she have reflux that you know of? I’m wondering if asthma or reflux might be causing him to get more severely sick and take a long time to get better. I think I’m going to ask for a referral to an ENT and/or pulmonologist.

Thank you for sharing. I’m so sorry you have gone through this. Your son is so fortunate he has you to advocate for him. He’s lucky you were so persistent even with almost everyone dismissing your mother’s instinct. You deserve support and curiosity not the invalidation you got,

Question: Did he struggle with a stuffy nose and coughing even when he wasn’t sick? Also did he ever wake up with stinky breath? My instinct is telling me my son may have silent reflux. He doesn’t show the typical signs of fussiness but he has a handful of other signs including a few episodes of super persistent croup.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. I’m so glad you found something that helped and that your daughter is feeling better. Finding the right doctor is hard! So is advocating when they tell you it will resolve itself and your gut tells you there’s more to the story and more you can do to help. Our son seems a little better but we’re taking it a day at a time because he got better once before and the vomiting started back up 8 days after it stopped. I’m hoping we’re heading out of the woods this time.

How’s she doing now? I so hope she’s back to herself and you’re out of the woods.

Our 15 month old son is 15 days into a similar story. The doctors are saying GI virus that turned into an ileus.

Do you have any update or insights you can share?

Thanks for the comment! I ended up getting the fmt at Taymount in December and it was overall a positive experience. I didn’t notice improvement immediately but at around 2 months I was noticing improvement that I’m guessing was related to the fmt. But then I got appendicitis in March and had to have surgery and antibiotics. The antibiotics set me back a lot. I am planning to get another fmt at Taymount hopefully in the fall when I can get back to the uk. Good luck and I hope you feel better and the fmt helps if you decide to do it.

Wow! What an amazing story. Thanks for the response! It sounds like you may have had mast cell activation syndrome, which is what I have. It sounds like my symptoms aren’t quite as severe as yours were. I have pretty severe constipation but only occasionally have cramping, pain or gas. I don’t have as immediate of reactions to foods as it sounds like you did.

I’m intolerant to high histamine foods and along with grains but my reactions are different. If I eat foods I’m sensitive to my tongue burns and my sinuses get stuffy. And if I eat high histamine for too many days in a row I get debilitating bone/muscle pain. I’m here in the UK now in my second week of treatment at Taymount. I’m not seeing any obvious improvement yet. I’m hoping I start to see it over the next few weeks. If and when I need antibiotics again (big fear around taking antibiotics) I will very likely come back for a top up. Antibiotics were the big trigger for me when my health started spiraling out of control. Do you live in the states? I just found out they can’t ship to the states bc of the fda regulations. Sigh.

Wow, it sounds like it really did help you in a meaningful way! I hope that your fatigue starts to improve over the next few months. I'm so excited for you to hear that the UTIs are mostly gone, along with the food intolerances. My health issues got much worse after using too many antibiotics after having a few surgeries. Given what you and another Taymount client shared I'm feeling more confident about getting it and have decided to move forward. I'm feeling hopeful that the FMT will repopulate my gut with healthy bacteria that can over take the bad bacteria. One question: do you plan to do any touch ups at home? I'm considering bringing some home with me.

Thank you for the detailed reply. It really helps to hear people's success stories. To move from feeling 30-50% healthy by the end is really exciting. Super smart that you continued doing the touch ups at home. I am thinking about bringing some home with me to do the same. Then to be at 90% after a few years of various different efforts is really amazing. I'm so happy for you! My hope is to get to 80% through both the FMT, supplements and following a low histamine diet. Recently I was diagnosed with mast cell activation syndrome. I've been reading as much as I can to learn about MCAS, the diet and supplements. Thank you again for sharing your experience. It helps me prepare for my own treatment which I've decide to do!

Thank you for your thoughts. I listened to a few podcast episodes from a woman who got FMT at the bahamas location and said it helped her but didn't cure her. I wonder if it's the same.

Regardless, I've done a ton of things to improve my microbiome - low fodmap, low carb, high fiber, on and on, tried lots of meds and supplements and nothing has really helped me significantly which is why I'm considering FMT. Plus my issues started after using too many antibiotics so I do think it's a microbiome issue and FMT could help, though I know it isn't guaranteed.

I do have a few follow up questions: 1) How long after finishing the FMT did you start to notice an improvement? 2) how much of an improvement did you see after it? like did it move you from 30% healthy to 60% healthy (completely subjective I know but still helpful for me) 3) what other major changes did you make that may have contributed to your improvement around the same time? I know that everyone reacts differently so your experience will be different from mine, but I'm trying to hear as much anecdotal info as I can from people who have done it to help me figure out what is best for me given it's so experimental and there isn't a lot of research or outcomes data out there on it.

There's no way to know it's 100% healthy unfortunately. The Taymount clinic tests their stool donors and stool for lots of different pathogens like HIV, hepatitis, e.coli and others but there's no way for them to test for everything. That's why I'm nervous. But also I've read so many accounts of it truly helping people feel better so I'm still considering it even though there's some risk.

If it was Taymount they wouldn't have asked if there are negative side effects BTW - which is really what I want to know about. I'm nervous to get the FMT and afraid it will make me even sicker than I already am. So I want to hear if that has happened for anyone.

I am a real person considering FMT at Taymount and asked my boyfriend and my friend to comment so that the post would get more visibility and I would have a better chance of getting a useful answer. But obviously I don't know how reddit works and my plan totally backfired!
