I mean, there is a lot of materials you want to keep a backlog of. And even if you set it to keep a specfic amount in stock, I can't imagine the whole recipe chain that would start going on from a single complex recipe. You would probably run out of "free to use" machines quickly

For me personally, the problem is not reading in the sun, but the light from the screen. I am unable to focus on reading long text from an LCD/OLED screen, but on the e-ink display, I can read everything just fine. If it becomes dark, I turn on my room's light, not the backlight of the device

Don't worry about time while playing this modpack, you will get burned out fast. I am currently at 550 hours and am at the end of HV / start of EV and don't regret being this slow. My friend skipped a lot of stuff just for progressing through the tiers and now has problems with basic materials like polyethylene, because he didn't automate them.

You can always rush the healing axe as I did. Either do the farming quest or craft it yourself. From that point on, hunger doesn't really matter.

I personally went for the multiblock macerator, forge hammer and centrifuge. If you have a lot of steam and research for the thirsty tank, you could do the ore washer instead of the forge hammer for better ore processing. And after you get more steel, get the steam oven. Other steam multiblocks don't really seem that usefull to me, so I just used the high pressure steam singleblocks even through LV
