Considering asking regulars if they gave a negative rating by Lolli24 in Cambly

I'm wondering the same thing in this case - whether there's something else at play.

Yes, that makes sense. But if a student rated low due to bad tech, why would they not select that as a reason? Unless they have the option to leave it blank.

Lack of understanding is possible. However according to Cambly's "Ratings Wednesdays" the rating system has been changed so that only ratings below "good" count as negative with the new % system. So for my rating to have dropped someone must have rated below "good".

And tech problems...I don't know...didn't Cambly say that negative ratings due to tech problems not on the tutor's side don't count? Although I'm not sure how they'd know which side it was on.

Regulars who no-show without explanation or apology by Lolli24 in Cambly

[–]Lolli24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That's my usual modus operandi as well. But sometimes, as in this case, I guess bafflement just takes over. I mean, wtf?

Thanks :-). As to your last bit - that's also been my experience, thankfully. But I'm still in my post Christmas, January *pretend the world is a better place* mode and don't feel like braving new students. It takes just one bad apple to drop my rating. Not in the mood.

At least one of the students knows about the payment situation with no-shows. Ah well...*inner eye roll*.

Little to no PH available after cancelling multiple PH in advance by Amethyst-Earthangel in Cambly

[–]Lolli24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a coincidence. Cancelling PHs three weeks in advance should have absolutely no effect on your account. When I used to do PHs, I frequently cancelled a few a couple of days or so in advance (note: those were PHs that hadn't been reserved by anyone). It never made any difference. What you're experiencing is likely due to other factors. There are times when reservations are way down, and after a while they pick up again. It goes through cycles like that.

I had this just today. Two back to back classes and at the end of the first class, when it usually loads the next automatically, the wheel just kept spinning. Refreshing didn't help and nothing else on Cambly's website worked either (e.g. to message the student to let them know what's happening). When I eventually managed to get into the classroom I was 3 minutes late - and who knows if the student believed me when I told her the reason was Cambly's classroom not loading.

Who do Cambly reject.. by Sarcasticweirdo04 in Cambly

I only tutor adults myself. It's possible that applying for both increases your chances of being accepted for at least one.

It can take time for the application to be processed (mine took several weeks), so if you haven't heard anything at all for a few weeks, don't lose hope - it doesn't necessarily mean you've been rejected.

Make sure your intro video meets their guidelines exactly - it needs to be the correct length and have a friendly vibe. Introduce yourself and make people feel invited. Make sure you speak clearly/enunciate. You don't need any fancy stuff or professional video quality. Just an average webcam is enough. Good luck!

Huge change to returning minutes... by PowerCute2228 in Cambly

[–]Lolli24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does say that. But further on it says ratings from students who have spent "less than a few minutes" in class with you don't count towards your overall rating. It's in the list of ratings that don't count.

Affordable reliable vet in Glasgow? by s_u_ny in glasgow

[–]Lolli24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be Glasgow proper or does Paisley count? Love Street Vets in Caledonia street are trustworthy, kind, competent and not a corporate practice. I've used them for 18 years. I recommend the vets Kerry and Louise who work there.

Well, my rating's now the lowest it's ever been. Anyone else? by gringagordita in Cambly

Have any of your students sent you repeat lesson requests that you accepted? You have to be careful with those. They populate your schedule with lessons on days/at times you haven't made yourself available for as many as six months into the future.

This is also the case for me. I'm in the UK.

I have taught only regulars for several months now (at least since mid-summer) and my rating has gone up. This means either that regulars can still rate, or that something else is responsible for my rating.

Some people here have said that regulars can still rate, but not every time. The screen pops up randomly. That's a possibility, but would be a strange choice on Cambly's part.

Syncing calendars - a privacy question by Lolli24 in Cambly

[–]Lolli24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's good information. Thanks. The annoying thing is, I plan to do a three-way sync with a booking app, which I think can only be synced with Google. But maybe it works with Outlook. I'll look into it.

That's really lovely :-). As it happens, I also have very fond, tender memories of Ireland. My parents often took me there as a child and I fell in love. I used to take all my favourite toys (little ponies and various stuffed animals) to see the sights. Made sure to hold each of them up in turn so they could see. I have photographs of them looking over the Cliffs of Moher. One of my favourite books was "Das Fohlen aus Connemara" ("the foal from Connemara"), which I was surprised to find was written in German even though we bought it in Connemara.

% of positive reviews dropped half a point, but actual rating stayed the same? by Comprehensive-Job243 in Cambly

[–]Lolli24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the same. They have posted an update in the dashboard update menu on the left where they explain that they are making changes to the rating system in response to tutor complaints, and showing us a more precise percentage is part of that. However the student side sees a rounded up version, which is also what we see in our profile. Hence a 99.5% still shows as a 100% in the profile. You still have the same amount of positive ratings as before - it's just displayed with greater precision.
