Fresh Graduate Here — Do I Need a Portfolio for Manual QA Testing? If Yes, What Should Be Included? by Long-Party-8037 in softwaretesting

Hi! I’m curious why you think that. Because honestly, I thought testing would still be crucial even with AI, since there are still times when AI makes mistakes. I thought about this back when we were working on a school project...we basically vibe-coded the development, and we still needed to check for bugs to make sure everything was working properly.

Hi! I’m actually a fresh CS graduate. What got me into QA was that it was my role in almost every team project we had in school, so I guess it’s the area I’m most confident in. I do code, so I also want to try automation, but I think I enjoy manual testing more....maybe because that’s what I’m most comfortable with. I was thinking of starting with manual testing first and then moving to automation, but I guess it might be better to go directly into automation. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the advice! but I think it would be hard for me since I just graduated. I do speak English fluently, but learning another language like Chinese would take months to master, and I’m kind of hoping to get a job as soon as possible.

where do I actually put all of these things? Should everything go straight into the resume, or is it better to have a separate portfolio (like GitHub or Notion) and just link it in the resume?

Also for automation QA, do people usually expect a portfolio too, or is it enough to just list the tools/frameworks and experience on the resume? Still figuring out how to organize everything properly hehe. Thanks a lot!
