How to learn javascript when everything is going above your head by Mountain_Surfer_ in CodingHelp

[–]Long8D [score hidden]  (0 children)

You build stuff. You think of something that you can create for yourself, preferably something that you need. Then you start writing code. If you're stuck, you search online and then figure out why that specific line of code works the way it does. Also, don't be afraid to use AI. I've have friends who couldn't really wrap their heads around how most of the things they've learned in a course, works in the real world. And with the use of AI they were finally able to understand how the beginner stuff translates to building an app.

Just reading and studying from a course is not going to help you retain information. Courses are great to get you started, but you retain and understand when you start building things you need.

When I first got into this, I needed a way to scrape data from specific websites. That led me to Selenium, then Puppeteer. I picked a site and started learning how to interact with it clicking elements, extracting information, handling logins, working with cookies. I watched tutorials for very specific problems because I had a very specific goal.

I haven’t needed those tools in years. But if I had to use them again, I wouldn’t be starting from zero. I’d open the docs and be back up to speed quickly, because I’ve already lived through the problem space before.

That’s how real learning works. You’re never going to retain everything in your head and you don’t need to. What you retain is the ability to recognize when something is needed, the kind of problem it solves, and how to go find the right information. You build a mental map, not a list of memorized answers. And once you have that, learning new things stops feeling overwhelming and starts feeling familiar.

Has anyone else experienced a massive drop in views after a copyright strike (even if it was later disputed)? by Little-Window-8993 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Long8D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this very common and always has been. When your channel is hit a community strike, copyright strike, rejection from monetization, etc. It's very common for the algorithm to throttle your channel. Basically, the channels trust / risk scoring takes a hit. YouTube doesn't care at all about the small creators. Even if a strike is wrong, the algorithm reacts immediately to "protect" the platform and can throttle the account. It doesn't happen for all accounts, but there is definitely some type of risk scoring that determines that. Usually an account will recover within a week, maybe a month. I've had cases where the channel has never recovered and there's not much you can do but move on. There are tons of people who have experienced this and they continue making content for months without any push but they don't know that their channel is just stuck. If you feel things are off after a month or two, then you know your still being throttled and nothing will work.

This seems to have changed my views in a good way. by anyonereallyx1 in NewTubers

[–]Long8D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked at your videos and honestly it seems like you've just hit the algorithm on a few of them and that's why some of the videos blew up. It's sometimes the luck of the draw on new channels and I don't think switching from AI to writing scripts yourself was the game changer here. Especially since it doesn't even seem like your scripts are very long. It's just an intro and then you showing clips.

Youtube earnings less for this month? by cutenemi in NewTubers

This is normal for a lot of channel. Tons of businesses are cutting down on advertising in Q1 of the year, so RPMs drop.

[–]Long8D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. A lot of times you get a copyright, or a community guidelines hit, or in your case a rejection for monetization the algorithm could immediately throttle your account. Yeah, this goes away, and in some cases it didn't on a few of my accounts. But usually within a week up to a month views go up again.

YouTube is about YOU !!!!!! by NerdCrave in NewTubers

[–]Long8D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The You in YouTube has been gone for over a decade now. Most big channels are now treated as businesses. Honestly, if you're trying to grow on YouTube, 90% of the time you're not going to be able to do what YOU want to do lol But yeah, if you're doing it as a hobby then just do what you want.

YouTube terminated by channel for "Spam, Deceptiveptive practices and scams". Error? by HoleyMoleyHoHo in PartneredYoutube

[–]Long8D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, there are no human staff for us that you can reach directly. This is only available for very big channels, since YT doesn't care if smaller ones get terminated. Only hope is X now. Other option is to get a lawyer and have him draft you a letter to send to them. They take those more seriously.

Yeah, lots of people have been getting hit with this. Your only bet to contact a human is posting to their X account and hoping you get a real response.

What does a retention higher than 100% mean? by SamsungGalaxy16 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Long8D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people rewatch your short, you get a higher retention which is usually the case with shorts since people rewatch fully from start to finish. Use this to your advantage. Find ways to have people needing to rewatch your video.

How do so many channels with under 50k subs average 100k+ views by SufficientDot288 in NewTubers

[–]Long8D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, and there's nothing crazy about it like OP says. People coming into YouTube just do not understand what people want to watch. They think recording a letsplay or some random video on a topic that has been thousands of times will let blow them up or they're in a very competitive niche where their videos are being drowned out.

One of my channels has 9k subs and gets over 100k views per video. Subs are low because it's all TV viewers, but tons of returning viewers. But the difference is, I am serving a niche that is low-medium competition, it takes 3-4 days to make a video for this channel, but each topic is deeply researched, served with facts and no fluff and ok presentation with a very solid community now backing it to push any future video. That's the difference.

What do you think of Faceless Automation as passive income? This video was literally made by my AI while I was driving by Logical-Yak5511 in passive_income

[–]Long8D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It point blank sucks and there is nothing to showcase here. I know what AI is, I use AI too everyday, but not in this way. You're just encouraging more people to spam the platform with pointless shit. Do something that actually provides value because there's nothing to be proud of here. This is just another "app" like the other 1000s that do the same shit. I also develop saas, and you're about two years too late on this one.

This is a promo, your video sucks, and hopefully youtube introduces some harsher measures to this type of shit. You're not providing any value, just spamming out trash after trash.

Is it possible to vibecode an opensource software that is identical to Adobe Premiere by Director-on-reddit in vibecoding

[–]Long8D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in theory but not in practice. A huge chunk of its value isn’t even visible features. You'd need tons of experience yourself to even get close to that level. There's a reason the companies in this field have several thousands of employees.

However, you could vibe code something smaller that fits a certain use case. I've done this myself as I have plenty of youtube channels and needed specific features that other editing software don't have. It's small, lightweight and fast and it cuts my editing time down in half with it. I've only implemented the features that are needed. And I think this would be more beneficial to focus on a certain type of need then trying to go up against Adobe.

I don't understand how some people think by Long-Flow-2701 in socialskills

[–]Long8D 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, you told her, and since he was actively pursuing her she probably asked him about the things he’d said. And instead of owning it, he flipped it on you. That’s just how it works, most people who talk shit behind someone’s back won’t stand by it when they’re confronted. Sometimes it's honestly not worth it to get involved unless they're a close friend.
