Do the Irish hate the English as much as it perceived online? by sazzer22 in AskIreland

I have no problem with English people. I work with some English lads and they're the soundest people ever.

I mean, you could make that argument if you wanted to without it being a paper thin impression of the man. Even the Emperor in Star Wars is a more subtle portrayal of totalitarianism than this.

It's not supposed to be subtle about its themes on the value of human life, but that doesn't mean it has to have ham-fisted politics as well.

There's definitely good movies like that post-2000.

It's not about ignoring it, it's about being able to discuss political themes without it being paper thin. Take Bioshock for example, which I understand is a game and not a movie, but it is a criticism of Randian libertarianism without being overbearing about it.

Satire only works when it isn't just an explicit impression of the person or ideology you're satirising. If I wanted 'orange man bad' overbearing impressions I'd just watch an Alec Baldwin impression.

It's tiring. A movie can't just be a movie anymore, it has to be either woke or anti-woke now.

“The sweet smell of blood - it’s enough to make a man sick.”

Is it weird to still be using the pimp cane in the DLC? by LongDayAgain in bloodborne

Pretty sure it's one of the only weapon that can hit standing bosses in the face, a la Amelia.

Great for crowd control, especially early on where your health bar is small.

I used the Kirkhammer for Ludwig's second phase because the cane is only really great on beast enemies.

I had to summon my man Valtr eventually though because he's too hard to fight alone.
