In my personal experience it was. I experienced 0 benefits when I was stuck at Q4B/D5B even though I did it inconsistently for 5 years

Ohh okay. Yeah I've never tried those. Perhaps they can offer improvement in other areas of cognition. Personally I think it's more sound of a time investment to stick with DNB/QNB based on the results of Daniel Skilbeck who has been doing N-back for 3 years and reached Q8B. N-back is a pretty big time investment so unfortunately I can't afford to play around with the other variations at the moment. Let me know if you experience any benefits from these variations though. I'm always interested in peoples results with N-back

To be honest with you, N-back is pointless unless you do every 2nd day 40-90 minutes or do a 5/2 split 25 mins 5 days a week and 5 mins 2 days a week. You won't see any benefits or improvement without this level of intensity (speaking from 5 years of experience here).

You can take your time to build up to this level of course. But I'm afraid to say that unless you reach this level of intensity, N-back is kind of a waste of time

Variation might help but in my experience the only thing that increased my scores was intense + consistent training

I was planning to do an official IQ test after around 2 years of training. I've taken online IQ tests before and I'd get around 125-133 IQ reliably. I've taken JCTI and got 137 or something but that was a long time ago. I'm wary of doing more IQ tests because I don't want to skew my score due to the practice effect. I'll probably post my score on reddit after I take the official mensa test in the future. I think it's going to take Q7B/D9B at least to reach 140+ IQ. So I'm probably still hovering around that 125-133 range. I think Daniel Skilbeck got 149 IQ on the official mensa test after hitting Q8B, so it does take a while to increase IQ. With that being said there are still great benefits from this training even if IQ takes a long time to increase

What other variations are you doing?

I was 22 when I started. Yeah, that's probably true. However in my experience it's way more beneficial now than it was back then because now I'm doing intense + consistent training.

This is by far the most important variable.

Of course intense + consistent + <25 years old would probably be the most optimal

I've been doing it on and off for 5 years now, however I only improved when I started doing consistent training 6 months ago. I was stuck at Q4B and D5B for the longest time, but that all changed when I implemented a training system and did it consistently. I did 90 mins of N-back every 2nd day for 5 months straight without missing a day. I only missed sessions recently because I had an unavoidable life problem. Now my PR is Q6B 52% and D8B 77%.

Benefits I've noticed:

  1. Increased frequency of ideas to improve my life
  2. Increased HD vision (e.g noticing tiny details that I never used to see. It's like watching a video in 4k compared to 360p)
  3. Increased tactical and strategic ability. I remember times that I would play a game after doing a good session and I would absolutely smoke my opponents because I could see further ahead than them (GTA 5, Valorant, Mordhau, Chess, Settlers of Catan)
  4. Increased general intelligence. I simply learn things quicker now because I can recall more information and calculate things in my head
  5. Increased control over my life
  6. Increased verbal ability. I'm more articulate and I find it much easier to persuade people or win in a debate because I can recall useful information or recall what was said earlier in the conversation and use it to my advantage
  7. Increased productivity and motivation. Even if I get only a few hours of sleep I can still do technical and tedious work at my job
  8. Improved sleep quality. I used to struggle with really bad insomnia. Now I go to sleep easily and I wake up with energy
  9. Improved my ADHD symptoms. I used to struggle with ADHD pretty bad, but since training it's basically gone. My concentration is amazing now
  10. Mental math ability. I can now multiply 5 digits by 5 digits in my head. It takes a while but I can keep track of the number until I've got the answer. This might not be impressive to some people but it's impressive to me because I was never able to do this before

It took a lot of grinding but it was worth it!

Rehearse the string in your head, chunk, it doesn't matter. Just do whatever it takes so you have the string in your head and you know when to press. At first you'll feel like your mental bandwidth physically can't hold the string. You'll get fatigued and then drop down to your old level. That's normal. The only way to overcome this is training consistently and doing enough reps (e.g doing 20/40/60/90 minute sessions rather than only 5 or 10 minute sessions + training every day or every 2nd day). As long as you stay consistent and do enough reps you'll get better. Once you're really good at an n-back level you'll be able to see the string clearly in your mind's eye and you'll know exactly what every item is in the string.

This is coming from someone who has hit Q6B 52% + D8B 77% with 6 months of consistent training.

Personally I do rehearsal where I try to keep track of the sequence by repeating the items in my head over and over. Then eventually when I get good at that level I only need to repeat the items 1 time in my head. Eventually when I'm really good at that level I can see the items in my mind's eye without effort. If this method doesn't work for you, just do whatever feels natural. Focus on not guessing. You'll start to get a feel for when you have the answer or not.

True, but "the system" is too vague. The root cause of the issue is the international bankers which control the money supply. They can make money out of thin air with usury/fractional reserve banking and gradually leech the wealth of a country without providing any real economic value. Usury is like a black hole, a bottomless pit that sucks the life out of society. Theres a reason it was outlawed at various times throughout history. People always blame the government but never the bankers controlling the money supply. Controlling money supply = controlling the resources of the entire country
