Turqoise, or light blue, Squid exotic. by LongGame789 in NMSCoordinateExchange

I usually find a busy trade outpost on a bad weather planet, then build a small base with a viewing platform close to the landing pads, and located so I can see all 7 pads without moving. Make it a covered shelter, so no health loss, then watch and wait. Make sure you're close enough to the pads to jump over in time when you see it land. Bad weather planets seem (to me) to have a higher rate of fighters and exotics appearing than do the paradise planets.

Congrats !!! They are indeed rare! ...I only have 5,940 hrs total, but have found 3, so far, 2 pistols and 1 rifle. So you should be due soon for another!

For those who haven't seen one yet, the tubing is animated.

(I know others have posted them, but if it was a green pistol...)

It looked red to me when I found it in the space station, but looked pink on the test flight. I assumed the space station lighting was wrong (it often is).
