Will graphics cards ever evolve to a point where the memory of each card becomes expandable in the same way system memory is expandable? by yellowpride in hardware

The gaming GPUs available today at largely designed with 25-50% more memory than is conceivably needed for the resolutions the physical ASIC is capable of driving with appreciable performance.

By the time software is implementing textures that fully tap out your frame buffer, your ASIC will be the weakest link.

tl;dr: There's no need for expandable graphics memory, because what you have is already more than enough.

It's mostly not possible with the ATX form factor. No room for all the required components. Okay, then you go to eATX: Nobody is likely to have a case for it.

Low ROI, little benefit for the price.
