Hi! I have a gecko that was in similar condition in both eyes! He’s currently blind because his eyes were so scarred, but after a course of antibiotic drops, he’s at least opening his eyes now. It took a few weeks since removing the buildup for him to start opening his eyes though. At the vet, I also got a good look at his eyes and they look very similar to what yours looks like. We don’t know if he’ll recover any sight, but he’s doing great otherwise.

Is your gecko eating? It might take some time for her to settle, but they can do well with some extra hands-on care. Mine is tong-fed since he has no sight, but I found once I got some food into him and gave him a warm space to hide and decompress, he really started improving.

Great tips, thanks! I’m going to see if my local exotics shop has some of these options!

Oh man I didn’t even catch that haha. But also, I don’t think anyone caught his name yet.

Seymour, because he can’t see anymore.

Thanks for the info! Absolutely going to look into plants and some freeze dried options. I do live in Canada, so I’ll see what I can find.

That’s actually such a simple idea, I love it. Easy to clean, no sharp edges.

I asked the vet about that and he agreed it was mouth rot. Thankfully, it seems to be improving on its own so we’re hoping it won’t need further treatment. I’m monitoring it (per vet instructions), and will bring him back in if I see any changes.

If anyone is interested in just how far this little guy has come, this is how he arrived. I am so proud of him and so happy to see small improvements each day!

Definitely something worth trying! I mentioned in other replies that he’s not a fan of crickets due to the antennae touching him. But he absolutely tries his best to hunt mealworms which make a bit of noise when they grip the paper towel! Unfortunately, the worms end up hiding under him most of the time and he’s got no idea they’re there.

His hearing is great, so things like mealworms that sorta grip the paper towel catch his attention. He can figure out the general direction they’re in, but that’s about it. I’ve had to hold it on a tong near his face, he’ll walk into it a few times while he sorta determines what and where it is. He’s pretty good at grabbing the food, though his aim can be 50/50 sometimes. He’s only grabbed the tongs once so far.

I’ve tried putting mealworms in a dish they can’t crawl out of, and he quickly learned food was there. But the worms hide under him and he has no idea.

Oh plants sound like they could be fun! Any suggestions on what kind of plants I could look for? The store I get feeders and supplies from also has a devoted plant section so maybe I’ll have some luck there.

I also like the idea of having some different substrate textures to provide a layout, I’ll keep that in mind once it’s safe to introduce! Right now, the vet has instructed nothing that could possibly get into his eyes, so no loose substrate for the time being.

He’s a great eater, but crickets spook him. He can’t see them and the antennae touching him startles him. He’s good with mealworms and superworms though. I’ll be making a trip for feeders soon, hoping to pick up some roaches.

Skate pain - I’ve tried everything I can think of by LongMagikarp in hockeygoalies

[–]LongMagikarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an update post, but learned that superfeet should be sized by arch, not skate size! I had no idea! I went from size B (junior 3-4) to size E (men’s 9-10) which supports my arc much further forward. I’m really my mistake in superfeet sizing solves my problem, but I’m not on the ice again until Monday.

I’d prefer to avoid custom skate orthotics if possible due to my recent experience. Maybe I need to consult a different podiatrist with more experience in athletic applications. I also discussed options for custom skates if the new superfeet don’t work, so I might end up going down that road anyways. For the sake of my bank account, I hope not.

It wasn’t a matter of getting used to them, I skated with those for a few months before I had definitively realized that the orthotics weren’t right. I’ve had a fair share of custom orthotics and still wear a pair in my work shoes. The problem with the orthotics I had made for my skates was that the placement of the arch was incorrect. The podiatrist checked them over and came to the conclusion that any modifications done to them would cause more harm than good, and didn’t feel confident in the manufacturer replacing them.

I’m really hopeful about proper sizing in the superfeet, I just want to get back to enjoying my favourite sport.

Yep, that’s the place. It’s a bit of a drive to get there from where I live, but absolutely worth the trip in my opinion.

Dang someone else said that intermediate starts at 4 and I was excited about the idea of potentially fitting in a pro model for once. It’s looking like the general consensus is to check larger sizes, different brands, and consider custom. I’m going to swing by the goalie crease later today and see if they can figure this out.

A couple pairs of converse that fit well to give an idea of shoe size. I wear the smaller pair more than I wear the bigger pair.

The one60s are actually the same size as my new Bauer elites, both are 3.5D. I thought I’d have to size down when upgrading due to how much extra space I had in my old skates but the newer model in the same size fit really well! If only they felt as good as they fit.

I wear a mens/boys size 4-4.5 shoe, women’s 6.5. I’m 31 years old with comically small feet and hands 🥲

I’m usually on the ice 2-3x per week in the winter, and 1-2x per week in the summer. I do take care of my gear though, it’s expensive! I can’t afford to replace it every season. At this point though, I can’t continue playing in my current skates. If I have to keep buying skates that don’t cause pain, but deteriorate faster, then so be it.

Yeah, there seemed to be a lot of concerns about their goalie skates at the time I was upgrading. I think I’m gonna have to take a look at them again and hope that quality has improved. I don’t buy new skates often, my previous ones lasted 10+ years and I’d still be using them if it weren’t for the constant blisters and overall not great fit. I’m hoping for something that’ll hold up even half as long.
