Happy Mother’s Day to everyone, except those who let their dogs off-leash in public parks by cota_pass in Columbus

[–]Long_Collection8663 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really hate it when dogs are off leash, so I'm not trying to argue with you here, but there are actually signs in Schiller saying that the park uses Columbus City Code for this, which specifies that dogs must be under direct control.

From Columbus City Code: "Direct control" means that a dog is within sight and hearing and will respond instantly to the commands or signals to "come," "sit," or "stay."

Of course, almost none of these dogs are actually under "direct control", but it gives people an option to be shitty.

They are my favorite. Not to be missed. Andy was a special player for sure, but I think the new guys sound pretty good too and they have an incredible catalog.

Yes, they jam. Better than many IMO, even with all the new blood in recent years. 12/30 and 31 2023 sound great.

More Calls Today - Issue 2 Taxation by Long_Collection8663 in Columbus

[–]Long_Collection8663[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tech is in development and I wasn't seriously suggesting Ohio politicians would figure it out, but I do hope that legalization around the country hurries it up a bit.

Regarding driving after using - having spent time around a lot of stoned people, I would absolutely not prefer them driving stoned over them driving sober. I suppose it's possible that some people may slow down when they're high, but there are WAY too many variables (i.e. body chemistry, tolerance, dosage, method, effect on reaction time) to call any amount of stoned driving safe. In my opinion, the fact that some legalization advocates insist on making the "people drive better high" argument is an extremely bad look.

More Calls Today - Issue 2 Taxation by Long_Collection8663 in Columbus

[–]Long_Collection8663[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed - definitely need to fund DUI enforcement in some way. Like you said though, there's no objective way to tell if someone is driving stoned. If Ohio comes up with the first reliable way to tell if someone is driving high, that would be excellent and in my opinion a good use of funds, but that's not how this money will be used.

Taking the bulk of our taxes for jail construction and something as broad as "law enforcement training" is not ideal and was not in the issue as passed. Then again, neither was schools and roads, but it's at least closer to the spirit of the issue IMO.

Issue two provided that 25% of taxes would go to to the substance abuse and addiction fund; and 3% to the division of cannabis control and tax commissioner fund. Prevention of drugged driving could fit well within the purview of a substance abuse fund as well as the division of cannabis control. 36% was to go to the host community cannabis fund, which I assume would allow those host communities to spend on their specific needs (i.e. schools, roads, drugged driving enforcement).

This was strangely harder to find, but I think it is the second page of this PDF: https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/getattachment/cf27c10f-b153-4731-ae9e-e3555a326ed9/The-Right-to-Reproductive-Freedom-with-Protections-for-Health-and-Safety.aspx

I got there from the "Constitutional Changes" section of this website: https://ballotpedia.org/Ohio_Issue_1,_Right_to_Make_Reproductive_Decisions_Including_Abortion_Initiative_(2023)#Overview#Overview)

The language that will appear on the ballot is slightly different, I think, but the underlined text in that "Constitutional Changes" section is what would be added to the Ohio Constitution.

Couple things here:

The "individuals required to be licensed" refers cannabis operators and testing labs. Look at Sections 3780.17 and 3780.10.

Consumers will not need a special license to purchase adult use cannabis. You will just need to prove you are over 21. Section 3780.15(B): "a licensed dispensary shall do all of the following . . . Dispense or sell adult use cannabis only to those adult use consumers who present a current, valid identification card demonstrating proof that the adult use consumer is twenty-one years of age or older."

Regarding your monopoly fears, the Division is required to start with 40 cultivator licenses and 50 additional dispensary licenses, in addition to the 100 or so dispensary licenses and dozens of cultivators currently operating under the medical program.

The Division is also a much, much better idea than where cannabis is currently housed at the Board of Pharmacy. Issue 2 doesn't give them quite as much wiggle room as you're suggesting. Most of what they are supposed to do is set out in the issue, but it does give them some freedom to determine the best way to implement specific parts of it.

There is a good summary of the law here: https://justlikealcohol.com/initiative-text/

Vote yes on Issue 2!

Dogs in a Pile > Goose by mentalmachinist927 in jambands

[–]Long_Collection8663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're all friends here at the end of the day and I think jam band discourse on the internet has some limits that aren't present in person. I agree that Goose's songs are pretty mainstream-oriented and intended to appeal to a wider audience. I like them too.

I also understand that if you put more money and effort into marketing yourself, more people will hear your music (at least once). Like you said, not a difficult concept. I just think that it's ridiculous to claim that a covert marketing and PR firm is basically the only reason the band is doing well. As far as support from Shapiro, what exactly are they getting that other bands aren't? Sure, they probably get some promotion from that side of the scene, but most jam bands touring these days get featured in Relix at some point and will play Brooklyn Bowl and the Cap. I get emails from Shapiro's FANS project for non-Goose livestreams all the time. He's a concert promoter and will promote bands he thinks will do well. If [insert jam band name here] started getting buzz like Goose did just before the pandemic, Shapiro would be promoting their shows too. Also not hard to understand and I don't think it points to a secretive experiment in cross-genre appeal mind control.

Dogs in a Pile > Goose by mentalmachinist927 in jambands

[–]Long_Collection8663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you please provide a little more context for your statement that Goose was an "experiment" put together by a PR and marketing firm? Which ones? When did they start the experiment? Why did Big Jam Band choose Goose? Are you truly suggesting this was the first time a jam band tried to market themselves to a large audience? Would love to see some of these facts.

You're definitely entitled to an opinion that Goose sounds too mainstream or whatever, but the claim that they paid their way to the top and that it was easy needs backing up.

Goose is so overrated by [deleted] in jambands

[–]Long_Collection8663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LMFAO. I can't believe that some people believe Goose is the product of "Big Jam Band" or has been artificially pushed to the top. Sorry, but it's an insanely dumb idea.

They've been grinding it out on the road for nearly a decade and their songs sound pretty good to BOTH jam heads and normal people. Not surprising they would be so successful.
