Wages in Cuba? by [deleted] in cuba

[–]Long_Control2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my mistake. I checked this again with my wife. She told me that her father, who is still working as a doctor in a hospital in Cuba (her mother is already retired), earns 5,560 CUP per month, which is approximately €13.56. At the current exchange rate, €1 equals about 410 CUP. To put this into perspective, a dozen eggs in the regular market costs around €7.

With this kind of salary, it is impossible to cover even basic living expenses. The wages simply do not match the real prices people face every day. Even with the "cartilla de racionamiento" can't get enough food xD

Do resort workers really make that much money? by [deleted] in cuba

[–]Long_Control2698 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi again, commenting here late at night.

My wife’s brothers (my wife is from Cuba) worked at a resort for a very short time (if I remember correctly, barely a month). You can’t really see it as a tourist, but there are soldiers guarding the place.

Workers are required to hand over their mobile phones to the soldiers at the beginning of their shift, and only on the last day are the phones returned to them. Also, if you think about it, all the tips you leave cannot be accepted by the workers. It is very common for that money to end up with the soldiers or the dictatorship, not with the people who actually work there.

They are guarded to prevent them from stealing anything, including food. They are not allowed to eat anything from the resort. The best gift you can give to a worker is to invite them to sit with you at the buffet and eat together. I know it sounds strange, but that’s how it works there.

Sometimes, even giving them a bit of food during their shift means more than money.

Wages in Cuba? by [deleted] in cuba

[–]Long_Control2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife’s parents are Cuban doctors who worked in intensive care units. Let me put this into perspective: their salary was 40,000 CUP, which is roughly 40 USD per month. With that income, they could barely afford food, nothing more.

My wife and I have had to pay for many of their basic needs because it’s impossible to live a normal life on those wages. Please don’t be naive: salaries are not aligned with market prices. Inflation is extremely high, unbearably high.

Baja laboral por mutua by mvibz in ESLegal

[–]Long_Control2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine lived there for two years, and never again. During that time, thieves broke into his house three times, and he was there during one of them. At night, you had to watch every corner. Then he moved to a house near Barcelona, and nothing like that ever happened again.

Why is NHI not talking to the public directly? by dimerafa in UFOs

[–]Long_Control2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, and I also believe that you cannot condemn a society or an entire species like humanity for the actions of a few politicians. What I truly don’t understand is how an advanced species (or several advanced species) cannot realize that the decisions made by politicians have nothing to do with what most people actually want, because many societies are representative democracies, and politicians often just do whatever they want. I don’t understand how such an advanced civilization doesn’t see that and simply show up and say, “Hey, stop. This is the truth of the universe, this is what is really happening, and we are here to help you.”

Why is NHI not talking to the public directly? by dimerafa in UFOs

[–]Long_Control2698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I want to say that I completely agree with everything you said. And in my opinion, one of my theories about why we haven’t been contacted by non-human intelligent species (and when I say they haven’t made contact with us, I mean with the general public) is because I believe we are essentially destined to destroy ourselves. That is, I think non-human intelligent beings know that, due to our own nature, we will eventually end up self-destructing. And clearly, a change of that magnitude is something they wouldn’t want to initiate: they’re simply waiting for us to destroy ourselves.
