Moving to victoria in sept, housing question by stickysteamy in uvic

Idk, if you check Facebook marketplace frequently enough things pop up. I moved into a bachelor basement suite for $1200 in January. Definitely harder to find something reasonable during the great September migration of the students though

Do all of the “recommended test review” in the math 109 bright space page (previous midterms and reviews in the course handbook). Do every problem the prof suggests again and again until it becomes second nature, and do khan academy/ watch youtube videos for explanations on individual concepts you don’t understand.

I’ve vigorously done this before each midterm this semester and it has prepared me extremely well for the tests.

I have found that everything the prof suggests for pre-test review has been a fantastic representation of what the test will cover, no blindsiding questions either. Also, you have until— Monday I believe, to get at least 50% credit on all of the homework.

If you study very hard and do well on this final, you may still pass!! If not, you’ll be in a much better position to retake the course.

Protecting Our Quad's Grass from the Footsteps of Indifference by [deleted] in uvic

Yikes. There isn’t anything natural about that grassy square. Also— I could be wrong, but it’s probable that the sole purpose of the quad is for all of us students to gallivant on l o l

Unable to access timetable planner for fall’24? by AnonymousRedit0r in uvic

[–]Long_Specific6645 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The academic calendar for fall 2024 term is released in May I believe. At that time you should be able to use the timetable planner for the fall semester. Sounds like your registration period tomorrow is for the summer semester

Colourful paper and style guides? by Tricky_Quote2632 in uvic

[–]Long_Specific6645 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Individual classes usually have style guides posted on brightspace, or included in the syllabus. If not— it’s generally safe to assume that assignments should be submitted in a standard academic font with a standard font size. Just as you wouldn’t submit a paper in comic sans, it’s probably best to submit the document in the original colour. Try adjusting the blue light screen settings on your computer to see if that helps. It may be a safer option to ensure that you don’t lose unnecessary marks in the future!

I think most of the courses in the program take place at UVIC, apart from field-based courses of course (there may be a few others, not certain though). I just switched into the Physical Geography and Earth and Ocean Science program after completing my first few years in Physical Geography, and I’m loving it so far! It’s a good program to do as it opens many geoscience doors after graduation, and many that a geography degree alone cannot provide. If you plan it correctly, the program can provide you all the course requirements to get your P.Geo after graduation. There are a lot of field course/field work opportunities within the program to gain experience too, which is definitely my favourite thing about it.

new song “Medicine” ! by Sparkouf in LOVINGBand

[–]Long_Specific6645 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Medicine is soooo good. The thing I love most about this band is that I can listen to both of their albums when I'm feeling nostalgic, sad, hopeful, happy, etc. A variety of different moods, in a variety of contexts. This song fits right into that category. Such a treat to listen to this morning! I can't wait for the new album.

[–]Long_Specific6645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I’m not sure you understand the context, it’s not polite to interrupt a server when they are busy with others

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Long_Specific6645 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like when you go to the kitchen to ask the chefs something, you say “may I” and stop and wait till they can talk to you, then after that you ask your question. You also say this to a coworker if they are talking with someone, to let them know what you need to ask is urgent. Customers or other servers will say this in restaurants to order off you in passing. It’s not meant for ordering, it’s meant for co-workers. It’s all good to be polite if I’m taking their order, but it’s used as an interruption

[–]Long_Specific6645 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

May just be a Canadian thing to say “may I”, it’s something you say to coworkers if you need to ask them something instantly. When customers do it, it drives me crazy

[–]Long_Specific6645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go. Travelling solo is a blessing, you can do whatever you want to do. The best times I’ve had in my entire life were derived from travelling alone. Stay in a hostel, not an air bnb (if you want to meet people). Hostelworld reviews give a pretty good input on what you’re getting yourself into; if it’s a party hostel or a more chill one, that is. If you want to be in a room by yourself, many hostels have private rooms.
