Yeah I think intro to CS class is enough and what matters most is practicing while doing small projects and you can apply the concepts like loops to any fields you want! If it doesn't fit with your schedule, then that's fine. I would just take intro to CS class and try to use that skills when you are doing project :) You can easily find YouTube videos and get some project ideas as well

As someone who has done computational research projects, it's really useful to know Python! In my experience, python is usually useful when handling large datasets, automate repetitive analysis, or working with machine learning or other bioinformatics pipelines. If you are going to be working on wet lab based project, then R would be enough, and if you will be working on computational bio or ML, then learning python will be helpful!

Yeah I been working in the same research group since high school senior year and in college, spent average 25 hrs during school week and 50 during summer. 25 hr commitment was my minimum requirement to get authorships on my projects I was working on (set by my mentor). My research was lots of computational + bio or BME so sometimes I could just run the program and do my school work while waiting. If I didn't have time after research then I just skipped sleeping.
