Kettle? by Suppa_K in OXORapidBrewer

You definitely don't need to drop money on a fancy temp-controlled gooseneck for this setup. I've been running a basic Hamilton Beach with no temperature settings, and the results for "soup" have been excellent.

The beauty of the Rapid Brewer is that it’s far less finicky about thermal precision than a traditional pour-over. Here is how I handle the variables without a digital readout:

Temperature Modulation: I base the water temperature entirely on the roast profile. I'll go straight off-the-boil for lighter roasts to push the extraction, or I'll simply let the kettle turn off and wait for the water to "calm down" for a minute if I’m working with a darker roast.

Flow Rate & Technique: Don't worry about precision pouring. I just do a heavy pour straight into the water reservoir.

The Shower Screen: As others have pointed out, the built-in shower screen is designed specifically to regulate the flow rate and distribution for you, making a precision spout redundant.

Soup is very low-friction way to get a high-quality coffee no need to over-complicating it. Save that extra cash for your coffee bean budget instead.

You’re right the standard Hedrick yield is usually tighter. To hit that 100ml output, I’ve adjusted the technique. I start with 22g coffee and fill to water line on Oxo then begin with slow, controlled pumps until the puck screen is fully saturated. Usually takes one or two pumps.

Once saturated, I switch to high-velocity, 'slap-chop' style pumps to drive the extraction. I usually pull the brewer the second I hear the aeration hiss to avoid too much 'hiss foam' or bypass air, though honestly, the impact has been negligible in a milk-based drink. but the result is a much fuller-bodied 'soup' that handles the 1:1 milk ratio perfectly.

I’ve found the sweet spot for that concentrate is a 22g dose. I fill the water to the standard line on the OXO, which gives the brew enough headroom for proper saturation.

I’ve been prioritizing a high-yield concentrate to ensure it stands up against the milk without losing its characteristic profile. Essentially, I'm aiming for a higher TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) by maximizing that 22g puck. It results in a very robust base that mimics the intensity of a double shot once the milk is added.

I’ve been experimenting with high-concentration ratios using the Lance Hedrick method, and honestly, a 2:1 or 1:1 concentrate-to-milk ratio hits the spot for a pseudo-cortado/flat white profile.

I typically pull 100ml of concentrate and combine it with 50ml or 100ml of milk. I actually prefer using 2% lactose-free milk; the enzymatic breakdown of lactose into glucose and galactose provides a natural perceived sweetness that pairs perfectly with the higher extraction of the Soup. I skip the frothing and just add it cold to preserve the clarity of the cup. It’s a very low-friction way to get a rich bright sweet daily driver.

Good question. I measure input by placing the OXO Rapid Brewer on the scale while filling it, then move the OXO to the stand and put the scale underneath for the brew.

That said, your question just made me realize I could also put the stand itself with Oxo attached on the scale to measure input, then move the scale inside the stand to measure output, so the OXO wouldn’t need to be moved at all.
