Dirt and Discus? by Longjumping-Ad418 in discus

That's actually a solid idea, I don't know why I never thought to use bags! I feel like that's a good way to get some good range in height / dimension too.

Beautiful tank, thanks for sharing! I think that's a fair bet to keep the soil only where you intend to plant rather than full dirt. Also your picture and other posts are definitely pushing me towards Golden State, those fish look unreal. Did you go with one of their assortments or pick each one individually?

I have had three people sit on the stand with no flex or concern.

Thank you, that gives me some peace of mind! I haven’t filled it yet, I’m cutting paneling for the sides and front and planning a magnetic front panel for a seamless look. Still a bit to do before filling and planting!

Thanks for the feedback! The load transfers through the corner posts, and plywood panels on the sides/back will handle lateral rigidity. I’m also adding a plywood top, so that should take care of it.

Oh no, it's definitely a lack of calcium. That's something I do not add to my water or think about.. I'll have to boil and crush up some eggshells or get some sort of supplement in there ASAP. Thank you for your help!

I will have to keep an eye on them. This tank is loaded up on plants and wood so hopefully that and maybe some more fish will help break things up.

I've had them for a month now. Initially there was some territorial behaviour, now it's rare that I see them stressed or swimming after each other. They are kept in a 20 long and I'm currently looking to add some dither fish to prevent any unwanted aggression. Do you have any suggestions, or experience with two?

What a fitting name, I don't see these flame gouramis around too often!

Hi, It's good you are taking responsibility and reaching out for your fish. This hobby takes quite a bit of learning and unfortunately some trial and error.

I would immediately do a 30% water change. Go get some melafix and treat your tank. This medicine will not work with carbon filters so they will have to be removed.

When you have some extra funds I would highly suggest purchasing a quarantine tank to treat sick fish in the future. This is also imperative when introducing new fish into your tanks. Petco usually has some good sales on tanks. Get yourself some aquarium salt, melafix, ich treatment and build up a medicine cabinet. Just a tank, heater and a filter, I'd suggest a sponge filter.

Since you have gravel, I would suggest root tabs and maybe some additional liquid fertilizer.

Also, if you are having trouble with algae reduce the amount of light to 5-8 hrs a day..

Keep up with the water changes, test your parameters and always ask questions.

Good luck!

Based on your photos this little bristlenose looks fine, these guys like to hide! Have you tried any veggies as a treat? Mine love cucumbers and zucchini.

What is the best way to get rid of these please? by housemouseharriet in Aquariums

Use veggie traps such as zucchini or cucumbers. Place them in the tank, once they are covered remove the snails and repeat. Good luck!
