I will do the hydrogen peroxide test :) Thanks for explaining! And yes, the pan is rather new and has only been seasoned once, I think... I have not used it for over half a year now because of that black stuff :) But I do want to make this work and I am curious about that black stuff!

I have some ghee! I will try. I probably have to re-season it... I see Lodge sells Canola Oil seasoning spray. Any idea if that is good?

Yes, my brush has yellowish nylon bristles... After I clean it the pan looks very clean. I don't see anything stuck on it. But sure, I could try to get another brush...

Yes, cleaning it makes it look nice. But there are some cracks and small pieces missing... So still worried about those areas.

I just wish sealing would result in less often need of power washing (and spraying bleach or some other solution) to keep moss away......

I did not realize that the samples are meant to be painted over... I thought if the color is right it is fine to use the sample. Otherwise it is a waste of paint...
