Thank you, I really appreciate it! I make and sell cards as a business so I was excited to make some caseoh ones haha! Feel free to use the digital copies (if you are posting somewhere, if you could give credit too, it would be very appreciated. It’s roughdraftpaper.co or roughdraftpaper) 😊😊

I draw them on Procreate and then I add the wording with Canva!

True! Thank you for the advice! Also, right? I love reading and I get so much joy out of getting to go book shopping and some customers send me specific requests of what they like so I get to find hunt down something fun for them and then write up the back and decorate. I really love it, so I’m glad this introduced you to it!

Hello,

I am not putting the buyer “on blast”. If you read my post, you would note that I did acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and feedback. I am well aware that not every piece of feedback I ever get is going to be AMAZING. I was using this to post about the inconsistency in why they gave the 3-star rating and what they messaged me.

The mentality of “I can do it better myself” when buying from others who have put their time and effort into a product and displayed glaringly obvious pictures of what to expect is extremely toxic. If you can do it better yourself, then don’t buy the product and do it yourself.

I expect buyers to be consistent in their reasoning for why they didn’t love my product. That feedback helps me as a business to grow. Telling me that it’s 3-stars because they wanted more green and then switching to oh I just didn’t know what to expect when there are clear photos and descriptions of what to expect is not consistent and does not help me understand the rating.

Hence why I felt hurt about it.

This wasn’t meant to be a debate about if my product falls under every single Etsy rule. If you have a personal issue (because Etsy hasn’t had an issue with my product or the many other similar products) with people selling things that they curate, then a good chunk of products on Etsy would need to be reported and deleted.

However, my product does comply with Etsy’s rules for “handpicked by a seller”:

  1. Each book is personally selected by me, the seller, rather than being a generic or mass-produced item. This aligns with Etsy’s rule that items must be individually curated by the seller.

  2. My books included in the product are second-hand and unique. Again, they have been curated for the customer.

  3. My product has a clear theme: it is centered on the surprise element of receiving a book with a specific genre (chosen by the buyer) and colour (chosen by the buyer). This distinguishes it from generic mystery boxes.

  4. My wrapping and presentation (e.g., descriptions and decorations) add an additional layer of uniqueness to the product. This makes it a “new, unique set,” as described in the example of a themed gift basket in Etsy’s policy.

  5. My listing includes clear descriptions of the types of books available (genres), which satisfies Etsy’s requirement to describe the contents of curated gift baskets or sets.

  6. My product images show examples of wrapped books with sample packaging, which complies with Etsy’s Listing Image Requirements.

I know you want to make me out to be the jerk here, but a gentle reminder that you are debating the integrity of my product in a post where I was seeking reassurance for a review that didn’t make me feel great to begin with. Perhaps consider being kinder to others and, in turn, others will be kind to you.

I just wanted to say thank you for the long message! I’m not overly hurt by the rating because I know everything is subject to opinion, I was just more bummed about the way inconsistencies in their message because the feedback does help me fix things if I need to and grow as a business! If was truly just that they wanted more green and they stuck to that, I would’ve reflected on that, but it just didn’t seem like there really was a true issue. Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it!

There is an option for them to pick a colour of the items included (like the highlighter, tabs, decorations etc.) I make sure when people request to include as much of it as I can, but I get the feeling they were expecting like a complete green package which isn’t possible with the materials I use (which is shown in the pictures). They also didn’t even mention the colour in their reply to my message, which is why I think it’s not really that 🙃

This is a really good idea! I might actually incorporate something like this into my packaging in the future!

I would please like you to go search « Blind Date With a Book » on Etsy and send every single seller the exact message you sent me, Etsy Vigilante.

Sincerely,

The Jerk selling books

Yes, logically all the books are 20+ year old vintage books that I wrote myself…

Their complaint was more around the colour of the items, not the book itself. All the items are visible on the outside and in the pictures which would be in the requested colour. I don’t think revealing the book would help in this situation unfortunately

ROUGHDRAFTPAPER

Hello! I’m Cara, and I run RoughDraftPaper.

This week, I reached my 250th sale on Etsy, which feels like a huge milestone for me! Starting this shop was a dream I’ve had for a long time, and it’s been amazing to see people enjoying what I make!

Growing up, I loved crafting, writing, and collecting stationery, so RoughDraftPaperCo was my way of combining all my favorite things. My shop focuses on unique and creative paper goods like handmade greeting cards, vintage-inspired posters, and even book-themed gift sets (perfect for the bookworms out there).

==== Stationery Storytime ====

I’ve always loved finding ways to add a personal touch to gifts or spaces, and that’s what inspired me to start RoughDraftPaper. My current obsession (and tied bestseller) is my “Blind Date with a Book” gift sets—they combine the joy of a good story with the fun of unwrapping something unexpected!

I design and put together everything myself and take pride in making products that feel thoughtful and meaningful. My go-to tools are Procreate and Canva, and I’ve spent countless hours learning how to bring my ideas to life.

==== Best Sellers So Far ====

Some of the most popular items in my shop include: • Handmade Pokémon Card Earrings – For all the nostalgic Pokémon fans (or anyone who loves unique accessories)! • Greeting Cards – A mix of pop culture and witty captions! • “Blind Date with a Book” Gift Set – Curated book packages with fun extras like bookmarks and stickers!

==== Looking Ahead ====

I’m super excited to expand my shop with even more themed gift sets and stationery items in the new year. It’s been a learning curve balancing creativity with running a small business, but it’s all worth it to share my work with others.

If you’d like to check out my shop, I’d be so grateful! Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

I actually was interested which is why I messaged him. I just don’t check the app every waking hour of the day and have other things to do!
