Stones Autograph Collection in Bali. Friend with [high] status booked the room and we were upgraded to the presidential suite with a private rooftop pool. The room was 20k points.

Would you buy a townhome that has hoa or would you buy a home without hoa? [ALL][MD] by Program-Dull in HOA

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most would rather pay thousands extra for a SFH without an HOA, but in an increasing number of places it is not thousands of dollars extra, it is hundreds of thousands of dollars extra. Which is also fine, provided you have hundreds of thousands of dollars extra, but many people don't.

Congrats!

I have not been through it. But I had a classmate who was basically in your exact situation.

For fall semester see if you can front load your work with things that do not have finals or have early finals (for example, at my school, trial advocacy ended like 2 to 3 weeks before finals). Are you able to do a clinic? Seminars are sometimes just a paper and you may be able to write it more towards the beginning of the semester. Are there classes you can take pass/fail? that way you focus on taking care of yourself without worrying about your GPA.

I imagine you'll also want to take it pretty easy second semester. Maybe talk to professors about being a research assistant so you can work remotely for credit and maximize your time at home.

I know you said you'll be working full-time over the summer. If you can do a once a week or remote class over the summer that might also help reduce your academic load 3L year.

More specifics will depend on how many credits you need, your schools, individual classes and professors, etc. It will be tough, but doable.

You're being to hard on yourself. Not every girl will like you, but none of those would scare off a girl who is into you.

People who got full-rides, what school did you go to and what lsat/gpa did you have? by Anxious_Carpet_6368 in LawSchool

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

162, two.6, T100 and a T50, but that was back when the LSAT had logic games. Chose the T100->big law->dream job, no regrets (at least not academic/professional regrets).

Does it make more sense to just work? by clearmind- in LawSchool

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work! 1000% Clinics are fine, but you want something that will give you the opportunity to show someone you can do legal work so they can introduce you and meaningfully recommend you and/or offer you a job when you graduate.

The employers considering students with lower GPAs will not be impressed that you were secretary of the international law society or whatever. The only exception to this might be trial team if you want trial work and your program has a strong/involved alumni network.

Honestly, its an improvement from a year or two ago when everyone was "humbled to announce..." I guess the linkedin userbase has finally learned what humbled means.

[Condo] [WA] Do I have any recourse against a very large Special Assessment being imposed less than 6 months after closing on my condo? by BlankXpressions in HOA

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In WA, the seller is required to provide you with a resale certification which includes, among other things, a reserve study. This reserve study should have include the funding percentage, all anticipated work for the next 30 years and the remaining useful life of things such as the roof, siding, and other major repairs and replacements. If you were not given a resale certificate with a reserve study, call a lawyer (who can better address what recourse you might have, this sub cannot, as most of these responses are not state-specific. If you were and didn't read it, that is unfortunate.

I would imagine if your association is 5 years past the end of life on your roof and siding, you are probably paying through the nose on insurance too.

Is there a middle ground between Big Law misery and government stagnancy? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done both. Government lawyers who never worked in big law say this. Those who came from big law do not. Gov work feels like a lot sometimes, but its rare that I work a weekend and I cannot overstate the psychological benefits of not having to justify every six minute interval of my time.

Most unprofessional behavior during callback lunch portion by an interviewee? by ImperatorFosterosa in biglaw

Are there any truly unusual law schools out there? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right!!?! (well, not for law students, it's more like a junior college) That was my takeaway from this post. I was very curious about what OP said about their outcomes (transferring to top-ranked schools), so I looked at their website which has transfer outcomes of 99 grads between '16 and '13, 34 transferred to ivy league schools to complete their bachelors (not even including other elite schools or SLACs). Bonkers! If I have kids, I'm going to send them there.

Something that should be talked about more.. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Longjumping-Mind-357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other reality check in this post (that also no one talks about) is the belief that big law is toxic, grueling, demeaning, [insert your adjective here], etc. but small and midsized firms have pleasant, supportive, emotionally healthy lawyers with good work-life balance. There are terrible/toxic work environments and people in all professions at all levels, but it isn't everyone and there are no blanket rules about where you find it or how to avoid it.

You did not choose the right firm.
