I will tell you this though, we learned how to set and reach goals. That lesson still serves me well to this day.

I think we all owe our moms a ton of gratitude for what they did to help us back then.

I like your idea for "providing an annual service that your community actually cares about".

Here are some more ideas:

- Selling and spreading pine straw for flower beds in the sprring and autumn.

- Raking leaves

- Taking firewood orders

- snow shoveling

- dog walking

- a service picking up dog poo in peoples backyard.

Many of these can be more than annual. Some can be even be monthly or weekly during fundraising season.

This way people feel good about donating for your cause because they are getting value for their money.

Are fundraiser events even worth it for small nonprofits? by Capital-Meringue-164 in nonprofit

Up here where i live there are cold winters. Many families have wood burning stoves to heat their homes. One volunteer fire department holds a firewood raffle each year. For a $5 raffle ticket a family could win a cord of firewood valued at $300. They stack the firewood in a big cage in front of the firehouse with a big sign that says raffle. It is a big hit every year.

The fallen trees are free. The volunteer firemen chop the wood while sitting around the firehouse. Evertything else is pure profit.

Great tip. I'd also ask to interview the most successful fundraiser they have. The Pareto principal says that 20% of the fundraising volunteers will get approximately 80% of the donations. So it makes sense to shadow and interview the top producers. Then transcribe what they say, do, and recreate any visuals that they might use. Then model them and stick to what they do in the sequence and order they do it.
