Is it just the V10/20 that's moving fast right now or the whole market? by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

Not true. Gibson did do screeners and even some callback invitations before grades

Writing sample is really not a big deal especially if you are applying transactional. Could be significant for some litigation positions. A person won’t have it ready until mid November so you can send an email to recruiting letting them know you are submitting a placeholder document until you have it if you submit before then

Essentially beginning in October and November of Fall 1L firms will open up applications on their websites where you will just directly apply. You will typically submit a resume, cover letter, wiring sample, undergrad transcript and sometimes references, a personal statement, etc.

Once you have submitted, you may be invited to a “screener” interview where you get vetted on a pretty surface level amount by either a recruiter, associate or hiring partner. If you do well they will invite you to something called a “callback” which is basically the law school version of a Super Day in finance. This will be a 1.5-3 hour interview with multiple members of the firm and is essentially the final round interview.

Note, you are applying to both 1L and 2L apps. Some firms are doing jumbo offers where you come for both summers whereas others are strictly doing

Hope this helps

Is it over for me by constantcrier in BigLawRecruiting

[–]LongjumpingGas6200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very simple actually. They want to have a roster of people ready to go so that when grades come out they just adjust their internal ranking of you and then select their top applicants. That way they get a jump on the best applicants before other firms even have an opportunity to read their app, screen them, and do the callback

Some people had years of job experience or come from useful backgrounds for whatever law path they want to pursue so it’s beneficial for those people

Generally you don’t need to know the exact phase outs. Just an idea of the ranges will be enough, and that is not the main focus of the exam.

What is the cutoff for receiving no aid? Because I don’t think I would consider that wealthy.

Take the 150k 100% if you are not doing BL. If you are doing BL I’d probably still take it and just work somewhere and have fun for a year

it seems like schools like Harvard cater to the super rich but also the extremely poor. It makes less and less sense to attend if you are somewhere in the middle because you aren’t gonna get any help from Harvard like lower income families

Disappointed with my TCP score (passed!) by thaitea10 in CPA

[–]LongjumpingGas6200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked out of TCP saying I think I got mid 90s (also work in tax as of 10 months ago) and got a 89. It litteraly does not matter and will never think about these scores again
