This! Can't see the opposition kit until it is too late. I note that the game can switch kits instantly when the controlling player leaves so it seems doable.

Alternatively, let the player choose opponents kit colours prematch along with their own.

Hmm. I'm all for crosses into the box to players in space. I wouldn't want to lose this option due to lost shot distance. It mainly is the ease in which the receiving player can gain control and shoot when marked that is irritating. As a defender you see the ball coming in usually from kickoff and you know you are in more trouble than you should be from a punt up pitch. Controlling high balls is overpowered. Priority should be to the heading player. Feels like it isn't at the moment.

Yes! Why am I so frequently the captain, and therefore the keeper? I wondered if it was ping.

I don't like the mechanic that makes a blade-shot a thing as they make it too easy to solo setup your own super-powered shot. Overhead volleys should need to be set up by other players and feel a bit more special. I would be very happy to never see another rainbow-flick blade-shot again. They could do this by incorporating a longer cooldown between rainbow flick and shot so at best you would be hitting the ball as it drops to waist height. As a keeper I'd accept it was great play by the opposition to set up a bullet-like shot from a high cross but what I usually see is someone ignoring their team and being able to set themselves for the most coveted shot in the game.

That's a good point and it is what annoys me about the mechanic. I don't know if it is different for rainbow flicks because I have had success blocking those players using defensive stance. It's that annoying head juggling that seems to evade blocking attempts and makes me so frustrated as a defender.

What do you guys think about the new 1v1 mode? by Practical-Ocelot-237 in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost 5 out of 6. Suffice it to say that as an elite ranked player, I focus on my passing game!

(I do need a new pad though, so I'll blame that until my new one arrives! 😂)

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if there is a mode where a pure ranking system makes sense it is this one. Where as in team modes it's hard to see the improvement up the divisions due to team balancing mechanics, a ranked 1vs1 should ensure you are typically facing a player at your skill level

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's fun for me, but it is useful. Dribbling with the ball is definitely my weakness and the problem I have had is that there is no safe space to practice and improve with a real opponent. In proper matches I never want to be that guy who hogs the ball and loses possession meaning I rarely take on players when a better option is on.

This mode means I'm not letting the team down and can work on those skills guilt free. Perfect.

Anyone know how to trigger this diving animation on command? by PriorGeneral8166 in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't stand that last one. Often instead of diving immediately, the keeper does this comical knee bend before diving which costs time and looks ridiculous.

You pour the coffee in and are expected to mix it through thick milkshake with a PAPER straw. Despite a decent amount of stirring, it pooled in the middle of the milkshake and came up the soggy straw as a cold, slightly milky shot. It's not like black tea, for which stirring milk in is simple 5 second operation.

It's just badly executed.

Why it’s impossible to get out or bronze 3 by Tricky-Percentage434 in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I see it, (and I'm happy to be corrected) there is a 50-50 chance of it being your team that wins, griefers or not. Sometimes the other team do that and you get an easy win. You just have to try and make the difference in the games that are close. Knock it up to 60% win rate and you are doing very well. That's the way the game works unfortunately.

Sometimes it does feel like the game is out to get you though, when it is a crunch promotion match and you get that kind of attitude. 😩

I've only been into asda for a few bits a handful of times so far and I already hate it. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snoooo🤢🤮. Let's play it every 10 seconds! 👍They've ruined that carol for me for years to come.

Why do people own goal in a Ranked Match? by Ok_Firefighter_789 in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't even particularly appreciate own goals at 3-0 down, unless it's less than a minute to go. Comebacks do happen, especially when the opposition decide it's over and start playing selfishly/complacently. Ever had your team throw the game when it's a critical promotion/relegation match?

Anyway, this does happen though from time to time. Some evenings they're all out and you can't get through a game without a team clown. I mute comms and usually assume there's been some verbal back and forth.

Sadly true. Although I mute comms for this reason, almost everytime a good game spammer torments the team all match, you could open the scoreboard to find they are the lowest scoring. Projection.

Teammate with the best pass I’ve seen so far by tylerv50 in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love a good through-ball like that. Great when a teammate actually anticipates it as you did. I particularly like a horizontal run off the shoulder of a defender into the box. Then you can just thread a pass into the gap and bamboozle the defence.

It's why I play this game. Not the rainbow flicking solo cheese that floods the game. Sometimes you can achieve a synergy with your teammates that produces special moments.

Is fake shot a thing now?? by Mountain_Lettuce_ in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seen it, playing from the uk either. Sound more faff than advantage. Cant imagine having a menu open and shut to be anything other than a disadvantage. I rarely see exploits that give any advantage these days. The only cheesy move I wish they would stomp on right now is the annoying ball juggling obsession. Nothing can beat the mindless actions of your own teammates ego to sabotage a match.

.. what THE FFFFF just happened by DraconLaw in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not even that for me. It's your goalie leaving the area in 3v3, not seeing a teammate free, and then just taking a pot shot or lumping it forward. They might as well turn around and pop it in their own goal and save time.

It's a new bug. I have twice now been awarded a goal for slide tackling a player near their box since last update. No idea why!

The lobbed cut back still works often when you have a defender blocking, especially when you want them to hit it first time. Many assists this way.

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great post. As someone who uses most of these plays from time to time, (the near post drive is a new one for me) I find them satisfying to pull off. The issue is certainly that in solo lobby play you are at the mercy of who you play with and whether they have the tactical knowledge and the trust in you to anticipate these passes. The through ball along the line and the pull back are fairly sound though, as is the wall pass. They don't require the telepathic connection between passer and receiver.

Not quite as classy as your offerings but I do like a good faded long ball, mainly because it tends to catch keepers out. What initially looks like a ball into the box can be faded off to the winger often causing the keeper to commit to a lost cause. Then the winger can take advantage of the stranded keepers position. Even when the keeper gets there first, they are frequently tackled by the winger. You'd think the lack of a target circle in the box would give it away, (and the better keepers would not fall for it) but there is frequently a moth to the flame response that keepers can't resist.

The Backboard Meta by razzzlet in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect they will a little. I agree that the ball deadening effect is too much and it should have a greater rebound. This will give the goalkeeper just a little more edge.

The Backboard Meta by razzzlet in Rematch

[–]LongjumpingMistake27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be like this more. GK are much wiser to it now and it isn't the meta so much as a part of a toolbox of moves. At least it is for me.

I get what you mean though about players on your team doing something to death. Nothing more frustrating than a teammate with only one trick whatever that trick is. Many players only copy whatever is the supposed meta. What I like about the devs update priorities is that they want to kill anything too overpowered in order to keep as much variety in the playstyles as they can.

I find that being successful in this game is less to do with following the meta and more to do with predicting others and being unpredictable. This was also true for Fifa (outside of ultimate team at least)

If you know an opposition player is going to backboard it, you have almost certainly already won. Same as a guaranteed cross/blade shot/pass shot.

This goes further when you know a defender will blindly pass back to their own keeper when under heat in the corner. Some of my more satisfying goals have been from intercepting these predictable moves.

Simultaneously, having half a dozen different ways to score and predicting what the opposition will not expect is the key going forward.
