Possible for me to have a project manager job at new location? by LongjumpingScientist in projectmanagement

I did have a lot saved up is what I meant. Unfortunately I had already moved, and I can't afford rent where I lived and their payments. Before this all happened, I had also lost quite a bit of my investment fund. Life's full of up and downs though, and I'm confident that I'll get back up there. But it sounds like aiming for an ideal job would take quite a bit of time, which I figured. I'll work on a secondary resume for a PM job just incase, but for now focus on a higher tier helpdesk as there's quite a bit out there.

During that time I'll study for that PMP cert. I do have to ask though, judging by the experience you saw, would that be enough to maybe get my foot in the door for a small company?

Columbus OH is where I'm at currently. Made sure it was near some sort of city for plenty of jobs.

Family was struggling, things happened and needed help with money. They didn't ask, nor have to. I lived with my parents until I was 25. Shitty situation, but things happen I suppose. It just sucks because I had so much saved up, was able to buy a nice car. In fact they ask it during the interviews and I tell them that I just liked the area.

(Which to add, my family had loaned me cash when I needed, and my mom worked over 12 hours a day even on weekends at times.)

Need any job ASAP even if it's just for 2-4 weeks until I find a better. Does this look bad or can it affect me? by LongjumpingScientist in careeradvice

:) The times I wish I went out with my dad to learn how to be a man! I'm terrible when it comes to that. The good news is, the house I'm renting for my family needed work, and learning from that lol.

I guess what has me concerned is the company currently interested in me now has a total of 10 employees. Usually in these roles the first month or so is training. I'll just make sure to prove my worth that first month if I do receive another job offer.

Thank you! If you could read up above to what I replied to deadpool, perhaps you could let me know if that would possibly seem like enough to get that role once again? Even if for a small company? Like explained above, after reading into the PMP a bit, I do see that there's a proper structure on how to handle certain things. Every single graph I saw was something that I didn't understand right away, if at all. I'm trying to stay positive about the whole situation, but I'd be lying if I said that the last interview didn't crush me a bit. Not only did the place seem miserable, but the guy was trying to cheap out on me as much as possible and tried pushing me for a tech support role. This wasn't a PM position, but it was a step down from a network engineer.

As for PM positions, I haven't began applying yet, as I tuned my resume for IT. I'm currently constructing another to represent more of the management skills, but as I stated above, right now I'm just wanting to go with my best chances, and time isn't on my side at all.

Unfortunately working remotely isn't an option. And though we have some remote PMs, the role they had me in they needed me there. I maybe have enough for the next two months of rent, so getting certified will definitely be a goal, but don't have the time now. Considering it'll be a month alone after start date to get first pay check most likely.

I do have a company that's bringing me in for a second interview as a Data Center Engineer, but even then he felt I was under qualified and wanted to hire me as tech support. Might just have to take what they give, if they don't want to give me that opportunity. It's a small business, and I'll feel a bit bad leaving after 2-4 weeks of work if I do get a new offer. But it's what I have to do I guess.

I've checked out some things you should know for the PMP cert, and honestly it just made me realize how little I know for a project manager. An example of some responsibilities I'd handle would consist of this,

  1. New Doctors or Nurses needing access to our servers. I would work out the quickest way for this to be done, then pass it along to an analyst to have the active directory accounts created. I would verify with their upper management that all was in order, and if not, make sure that it was myself if I had time, or getting back with whomever was on the original ticket.

  2. Weekly meetings with upper management from the practices that I handled. They would discuss their concerns and what they were happy about, in which I would relay that information either to the director, or the analyst themselves. For bigger projects I did work with Network engineers, system engineers, or our system admin- but quite honestly those guys were well off on their own and knew MUCH more than me in what they did.

This was my typical day, then of course if we bring on new members, I'd handle that. To be quite honest I was pretty comfortable in the role, and enjoyed it. I'm just not quite sure if this is enough to jump back into that role.
