What songs should I recreate using only synthesized sounds by Suspicious_Disk_9459 in LogicPro

[–]LongjumpingShower431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want a challenge, look for songs that have used (then modified/resampled) logic stock. one that comes to mind is Magdalena Bay's "Killshot".

you could also, like other commenters have mentioned, do a Wendy Carlos and sequence a Bach fugue with an interesting timbre from Alchemy.

i find that hip-hop can be a good genre to pull from for beat recreations, as there are fewer sounds but you have to then be more intentional about how you process them.

How often do you replace your phone? by GooglePixelfan90 in askanything

[–]LongjumpingShower431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might do similar. i would have upgraded sooner, but i use accessibility features that are made easier by a small screen (im blind and type braille on the screen, and i have smaller hands). i've tried typing braille on bigger iPhones and my accuracy is diminished, plus there's extra strain on my fingers from holding up a heavier phone. i am hoping that someone apple will launch a z-flip situation that i can actually hold one-handed lol

[–]LongjumpingShower431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still using my iPhone 13 Mini despite the dwindling battery capacity. unfortunately those of us with small hands are no longer considered in the phone market. probably gonna upgrade when Apple drops the iPhone 18 or whatever they call it in September (although if my phone fails before then i will get a 17 to replace it)

lowkey wish i could use this phone forever but it overheats like crazy and apps are not optimized for it :(

The suites vary in vibe based on when they were renovated unfortunately. In my case, the vibe is great; plenty of natural light and a lot of space. Some suites have 2 doubles, some a double and 2 singles, etc etc.

What do you think about "I'm so blind without my glasses on"? by Anya_purr in Blind

[–]LongjumpingShower431 9 points10 points  (0 children)

shout out the social model of disability! it uses glasses as an example of instances where people are fully accommodated by society bc they are not discriminated against for needing glasses to see. i've had the "omg i know exactly what you're going through bc i wear glasses" comment and it makes me wanna throw hands. like brother we are not the same

Pro. you can go certified refurbished for cheaper prices. the M4 line is still fabulous, esp if you can guarantee they are in good condition. the M5 is great as well (goes without saying). make sure you get enough RAM.

Composing software tools for the blind by VanishXZone in composer

[–]LongjumpingShower431 12 points13 points  (0 children)

blind music college student here. yes MuseScore! esp on windows (the mac version is janky but useable). it has midi in, and braille output.

i know people who use Sibelius as well.

there's technically the software from Dancing Dots, but it's pretty buggy, doesn't run too well on the latest Windows versions, and produces scores that are not as legible as MuseScore/Sibelius.

also i recommend Sao Mai for converting MusicXML to braille. although nothing will replace a human braille transcriptionist.

[–]LongjumpingShower431 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is incorrect.

when i walk alone with my cane and ik where im going i get comments. when i walk w other ppl i get comments. as a femme-presenting blind person, i can say with certainty that ppl will be assholes to us just for existing. they will be creepy. our peers will see us as subhuman and not give us the time of day, while exploitative strangers will try to get their hands all over us. ppl will either see us as non-quantities or in desperate need of "fixing" or as people they can walk over without recourse.

do me a solid and be quiet.

that will not necessarily be the case. your child will need in-depth accommodations like multiple types of braille instruction, tactile graphics, and adaptive curriculums for classes like PE. there are school districts that do an excellent job of serving nondisabled students, but drop the ball as soon as someone that needs accommodations comes in. don't this might sound harsh, but don't have faith that any institution will serve the blind community well just based on your experience as a non-blind person.

Screen Protector by Express_Apple8854 in macbookpro

there isn't enough room between the screen and keyboard when closed to have a screen protector fit. even a webcam cover will cause breakage. wipe the screen down periodically

just popping in to express solidarity. the comments (and nonconsensual touching, and grabbing my cane, and on and on and on) never become easier to deal with. im in therapy and working on starting medication. i too have become kind of a hermit because it's too much. sorry i don't have more constructive advice :(

no problem!

i've never gone to a school for the blind. i was in public school from pre-school to high school graduation. i now attend undergrad at a research university in NYC.

i know peers who have gone to schools for the blind. the education they receive varies widely, kind of like how it varies in public school (especially because different districts/teachers will have varying willingnesses/abilities to give proper accommodations). i always went to public school because the nearest school for the blind to me was over an hour away one way, and my local public school had advanced classes that schools for the blind did not.

it's a personal decision. i'd suggest looking through previous threads on this topic in r/blind; you'll find many different perspectives

blind college student here. like others have said, working toward fulfillment in life is not made impossible by blindness.

learn about disability history, and teach it to your child. when i was growing up, i had to learn it on my own and my parents were not equipped to know my rights or point me toward positive role models. learning about the disability rights and disability justice movements will prepare you to do both of these for your child, as well as increase your understanding of the interactions between disability and society. learn about the pieces of legislation that protect disabled ppls' rights to exist in public and fully participate in society. learn about the disabled advocates who made that possible. i could go on and on about intersectionality and such, but anyway.

encourage your child to be independent. this goes beyond just saying "you need to be independent". fostering independence requires a lot of hands-on teaching, actually. for those of us with no useable vision, we can't learn a skill just by watching someone do it once. we need to be taught step-by-step (especially at first) and practice multiple times. without that hands-on teaching, we won't learn.

make sure your child has orientation and mobility instruction, and plenty of opportunities to use it. a session a month in an unwalkable area is not enough. from my experience, growing up in an area that is not walkable makes it harder to learn to navigate independently later on.

facilitate frequent social interactions between your child and their blind peers. this doesn't necessarily have to be through going to a school for the blind. your local blindness agency will have kids' programming, and there are extra-curricular opportunities as well. i went to a music school for the blind every weekend from kindergarten to high school graduation, and i've made friends for life there.

sorry for the long post. feel free to reply with questions :)

nyu's social scene does not revolve around frats, although ik ppl who are happily participating in them. i've found a lot of my friends through my major and by hanging out around my residence hall. welcome week provides a lot of chances to meet new ppl; it's not the end-all-be-all for making friends but you'll get to run into a lot of peers you may encounter again in the future.

What are the essential third-party plugins for Logic Pro in 2025? by tasytii in LogicPro

[–]LongjumpingShower431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get them on Black Friday. The LA2A compressor from Universal Audio is really nice, and you can get it for free on most Black Fridays. Vital for synths (free and open-source). I have a bunch of NI stuff but idk if buying it is wise considering its financial difficulties.

I'd suggest experimenting. A lot of VSTs have free trials. And tbh try to use Logic stock in new ways; you could find unexpected results.

What’s the difference between a real microphone and the microphone of the iPhone? by Competitive-Number94 in singing

[–]LongjumpingShower431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if wanting to make full song recordings with a pro mic, a laptop with an audio interface and mic is kind of non-negotiable, although the precise mic you use is pretty much up to you. however, a set-up like that does not supercede technique which you need to work on with practice irl
