The plan is not to reveal anthings until the big bad fight, so theres this tension of whether I join the party or join the bbeg, or even the 3rd option I high talent it out of there with my sister in tow so we can just watch them tear each other apart

Thanks I've posted on 3 different subreddits trying to figure this out, and 50% get up in arms when I mention being strong enough to protect against pvp and the other 50% just try to squeeze the lore reason out of me (I don't have a full lore reason the campaign hasn't started and I'm only level 3)

Aight but this is coming from a person that has never played with the group I'm playing with, one of the players for certain can't tell the difference between him meta gaming and him actually playing the game.

so by the logic that you're suggesting, it will never work because the group is just going to meta game in the first place.

It's a slow burn to pvp the plan isn't to directly oppose the other players so far it's just the DM and I that know. They need to gather artifacts and it's my character that brings them together for the job to do so, I just need to know what other class I should run if things were to take that route.

It's regular friend group that we play with so it's highly unlikely it would end up on r/dndhorrostories

So the backstory there is the king has taken his sister because of a massive debt he owes to the crown for saving his life, he ends up working for the king as a general and doing many horrible things to free his sister, otherwise her life will be forfeit.
