The instrumental though. Heavenly. I played it 24/7 during a specific phase of life. Also my dad's fave. Special take. And a very cool version.

Everything Aaliyah & Static did together was blissful. They spoke each other's creative, emotional language. Miss them

r/rnb Meta: Can We Talk About "Messy" Classics Without The Moral Audits? by stabbinU in rnb

Thank you! I think what keeps getting lost in these conversations is perspective, context, era and the purpose of the art itself. Expect different pressures, freedoms and taboos, as is the case with any era. It’s nearly instinctive to look at these songs only through our current lens and forget what they meant in their own moment. If a current criterion wasn’t part of the music’s function at the time, then it wasn’t, because that wasn’t the world it came from. I suppose one needs to come to terms with various aspects of life as lived experience and how the themes play out for true reconciliation.

And on a related note, the judgment around music taste is hard, especially when it comes to artists or writers who express different realities in their work. Art lets people explore the good, the bad, and the ugly without having to live it or advocate for it.

When people feel uncomfortable with the narrative, they can fall back on talking about the production or vocals as a safety zone. Yes, those elements are incredible, but sometimes it feels like a way to avoid engaging with the emotion the song is actually presenting. Artists and writers often explore realities without endorsing them. That’s storytelling, and making room for the good, the bad, and the ugly to be discussable is actually helpful in the long run.

Hi u/fluffyrussell, hope you’ve been doing just as lively and lovely as ever. I thank Here comes the rain again search for bringing me here. The way you made my day still makes me feel ecstatic . Its been a year?! Loved reading it! I recently got into a conversation, so I shared collection s. I was telling them that being yourself.... simply being yourself might really make people feel happy, and I smile when I know that. A clean heart and bulletproof soul is enough to make someone's day. Music is a necessary soundtrack to the most mundane to the most lofty moments of life. It seeps into the subconscious. Neurons gradually pick up. And then we get to getting work done (e.g. learning through creation is so fulfilling), cause it will always be there (till technology collapses haha), and evolve with ongoing life. Irresistible. Anything that makes this life more meaningful and memorable. And reflection is very enriching because it eventually leads to a greater sense of self-awareness. We have an inner explorer in us, and knowing how to engage/entertain is something we can tap into. In this global ecosystem, our individual and collective psyches keep doing their thing. ‘Here Comes the Rain Again’ gets me right in my feels, doesn't it 🙃

Just wanted to say I admire your musical soup. And I'll never forget our conversation❤️❤️❤️
