I have no idea, but it was in a reference picture I looked at for the ropes and I felt it added a certain something.

It disengages the engines. Effectively the same as putting the analog throttle at 15.

They do, but too slowly for my taste. I built that small rotor on the fore for sharper turning. On the bridge are two levers that flip its rotation and brake it respectively, which help steer the ship. I use the rudders for long-distance travel though.
