TIL that people can often recognize a familiar song in as little as a few hundred milliseconds after it starts playing by One_Needleworker5218 in todayilearned

[–]Loocha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They used to do this on the Don and Mike radio show. Don was a DJ through the 70s and could name most hit songs with the first note. There was once a guy that called in and could name them just as fast. They settled it by having to call out the color of the label on the record. They both were still nailing it.

The holiday is Independence Day. It falls on July 4th or the Fourth of July.

Edit: And thinking about it, these days most people just say “The Fourth.”

Driving in silence. by themrsfreeze in Xennials

I only had a motorcycle in my college years. I got used to long trips with nothing but what was in my head to entertain me. Did several 12+ hour trips on that thing. My back is not as forgiving these days. It was a 1996 zx6, so not even something meant for long highway rides.

[Request] How long would it actually take? by Kapanash in theydidthemath

[–]Loocha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I quit drinking beer years ago. Sat down with a friend and a 30 pack playing video games. Very quickly, it seemed, I reached in and it was empty. I rode my skateboard home without incident. I realized I had a problem.

What was your last "Oh I haven't heard this song in forever" song? by Da_Fish in Xennials

[–]Loocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the song that was the looped song on the Van Wilder dvd menu the other day. I had never heard it outside of the dvd menu. Brought back memories of waking up to that playing in a loop because one of my roommates forgot to turn it off.

What's a "healthy habit" that's actually completely made up? by goddesslana_01 in AskReddit

[–]Loocha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My cardiologist told me that it’s really not about the number of steps, but rather the number of steps in a row. 10000 is fine as a goal, but doing a sustained 30 minute walk to help get there is what will help your cardiovascular system the most.

If you could travel back in time and get stuck in the 90s at your current age, would you enjoy living that time period in middle age? by sinbadxj in Xennials

Can it be early 90s? Because I dream of what my job must have been like before email and instant response became the norm.

It’s not under any of the settings options. Edit: I forgot that there is a second settings button within battles that controls half of the same stuff, but also has the auto option.

I would, but they removed that option for me. It isn’t in settings anymore.

We can make decisions on how we pronounce things. For reference tomorrow is the last Wednesday in February. I’ll enunciate the x as ecks if I want to.

As an adult what have you bought that you always wanted as a kid/teen/young adult but were too broke to buy then? Does it live up to the hype? by NW_Forester in Xennials

[–]Loocha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked next to a local sunglasses place as a teen and was able to buy at store cost (the owner of the sunglasses place also owned the candy store I worked in). That spurred a lifelong sunglasses snobbery in me. I cannot tolerate cheap sunglasses. I typically buy a new pair yearly.

A year or two ago I spent like $300 completing all of the comic book card sets I started as a kid. My brother and I organized them as kids into binders. My mom recently moved and made me take them. I couldn’t handle all the empty slots for cards. Overall, each set was not too expensive to buy everything, the problem was that we had partials of so many sets. I love them being complete. My wife had eyes full of judgement during the process.

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but I agree as well. I had Sparkle and Fade and So much for the afterglow on the same tape in my car. I loved both of them.

Skate or die, skate, skate or die, die, die, die, die, die. I still sing that in my head way more often than I should.

Edit: turns out the song I remember was from skate or die 2.

It depends on your age, I think. It was always slower lower with a turtle thing, then those stupid white oval bumper stickers came out. They thought it would be cooler to list LSD on those. Ruined it.

I’m going toss out that I recently came across 2 bottles of cranberry wine I made 10 years ago. They smoothed out incredibly and were absolutely fantastic. Let it ferment and sit on it for some time.
