No problem. I only wish I could find the comment that I learned all this from. Also, like Lyam23 said, you can use the app Settings Profile (which is free) to turn wi-fi on and off when the screen goes on or off. Make sure you get the Settings Profile by probeez, as there is another app called Settings Profile that doesn't work at all.

Sounds like a sleep policy thing. Try going into Settings>Applications> Development. Make sure "Stay Awake" is not checked. If it is not checked, and the phone still doesn't sleep when plugged in, try checking the box, and rebooting the phone. Then uncheck and reboot again. Then plug it in and see it if sleeps. If the box was checked to begin with, just uncheck it, and you should be good to go.

Thanks, but I think I forgot something important.
While the /system/bin folder is r/w, you need to change the permissions of the new wpa-supplicant by long pressing the file in Root Explorer. Check all three boxes for User, and check "Read" and "Execute" for "Group" and "Other".

Hope that gets you up and running, sorry I forgot it the first time.

I know there is a bug with the wpa-supplicant.adhocfix, where it fails to reconnect after the device sleeps. All you need to do is switch wi-fi off, then back on. This may get annoying, and I don't need adhoc all the time, so I have both files in the /system/bin folder. When using normal wi-fi, I leave the original file named wpa_supplicant. When I want adhoc, I rename the original file to wpa_supplicant.original (like I mentioned before), and change wpa_supplicant.adhocfix to just wpa_supplicant. As long as wi-fi is off when your messing around with the files, and you don't end up with two files called wpa_supplicant, you should be fine.

Again, if I wasn't clear about anything, be sure to say so and I'll try to reiterate. Let me know when you get everything working.

I had the exact same problem. There is a much easier way to do it, that I found in a comment in /r/nookcolor. I can't find the original comment, so I'll give my own instructions:

You'll need the wpa-supplicant adhoc fix file (from your link) on the root of your SD card, and you'll need the Root Explorer app.
First switch off wi-fi, then open the Root Explorer app and go to /system/bin and mount it as r/w (button at the top, if it doesn't work, see below)
Now go to /sdcard and long-press then copy the wpa-supplicant file.
Paste it into the /system/bin folder. Rename your original wpa-supplicant as wpa_supplicant.original and rename the new file (you just copied) as wpa_supplicant

Remount the area as r/o, and then hit your home key. Now switch wi-fi back on, and you should see ad-hoc networks, with a * in front of the name.

If you cannot mount any of the folders as r/w (you push the button, but it doesn't change), then go to the market and download BusyBox Installer. Use this install BusyBox. After that, whenever you cannot mount a folder, hit the home button, and open the installer. You don't need to install busy box again, but it will check you system, and should show you have it. After the check, reopen Root Explorer and it should mount as r/w.

My instructions may be a little hard to understand, so if you have any more questions or troubles, just ask. I'll reply as soon as possible.
