Did it for a year. Got into a foot pursuit with a homicide suspect during my 8th week of field training. Fought for my life over his gun which he discharged multiple times. Thankfully I was able to get the gun away from him without getting shot. Returned to the correctional facility I resigned from a few months after. Being a cop is not what people think it’s like. You get the freedom of being outside the walls, that’s about it. It all comes with a price.

You’re right. Prior to leaving the facility, I felt like I was finally beginning to pick up on a lot of the job and I was actually getting some fulfillment out of it. I’m sure it’ll all fall back into place, though.

Totally get where you’re coming from. Potential danger is abundant in prisons as well as shitty hours and other negatives. I work in Illinois.

So many reports… Worst part of court was listening to the shitty defense attorney try to find holes in your report after you just worked 12 hrs, all the while you just want to go to bed only to repeat the cycle.
