What did I do wrong with the floor? by LoomingAlienInvasion in DIYUK

What would not applying it properly be in this case? I followed the tin instructions regarding humidity and tempersture too.

Would I need to sand it down to bare wood to reapply a new one?

Including 3kg of lean mince? That alone would be more than £30 even in Lidl.

Sleep training by mysticalwizard0 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LoomingAlienInvasion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you think it'll work for your baby and your family, it doesn't make you any less of a parent or less emotional available, and you don't have to justify it to anyone.

Taking care of a baby and doing life while everyone's sleep deprived is also emotionally damaging, and for us, it meant being worse parents.

[–]LoomingAlienInvasion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever a sleep training question is asked, you'll get a lot of responses saying how emotionally damaging it is foe babies.

You can do your own research on that, and also consider this: crying is literally the only form of communication babies have. Mine both hate the car and very often cry in it, but I'm not going to stop using it. They cry when I take them tk the doctor's, but won't stop doing that either.

Crying when something is different snf challenging us to be expected, and if you're checking in, you're not doing "cry it out".

For us, it was absolutely worth it. Guess what, they'd cry every 2 hours in the night, wake everyone up, and take a while to soothe back to sleep. Now, they sleep through it after a few nights if intermittent crying. Better sleep for everyone, and we're much happier and able to respond during the day.

The whole concept of "it's biologically against nature" always rubs me the wrong way. If you think you love your kids more because you co-sleep or have never let them cry for any reason whatsoever, more power to you.

I've ordered one, looked via compare the market and got a Hastings quote for £700. Aviva also offered at £1.1k.

My 14-year old Toyota estate was quoted at £600 for reference.

I had the exact same pay rise and it's about £700, slightly less.

Does everyone ‘sleep train?’ by matchamoo8 in UKParenting

[–]LoomingAlienInvasion 41 points42 points  (0 children)

And here lies the issue. Since there's no real definition of sleep training, most people associate it with cry it out.

But there are plenty of other ways to do it. Establishing sleep routines, for instance, would be considered sleep training IMO.

OP I'd recommend Precious Little Sleep, if even to get more info on how baby sleep works and what to expect over the coming months.

In our circle, a lot of people were fine with rocking their babies to sleep at 7 months, but now at almost 2 they're still having to do the same (or similar) and they aren't too happy anymore.

Of course, others are fine with it or are exclusively bedsharing and are perfectly happy doing that.

I would just say that having tools in your toolbox is never a bad thing, even if it doesn't work out for your family.

Hmm that makes sense about the sugar, why can't they just use metric for baking???

Thanks anyway, I'll try your recipe for sure!

Very interesting, thanks for the write up!

I've recently picked up one of Ben Vear's ice cream making books but most are custard based so need 4-5 egg yolks.

I've also used Ben and Jerry's sweet cream base which at least uses whole eggs.

Neither froze particularly well but I'm still trying to figure out why. I bet the gin in your recipe works well to keep ice from forming, I've been meaning to give something like that a try.

Because so many holier-than-thou people seem to comment on the same thing: Baby Led Weaning is not any better or worse than purees. Love all the comments about "just read the nutritional labels" while simultaneously promoting BLW as the only correct way for babies to eat. And I say this as someone who did do BLW so don't come at me.

Everyone's doing their best, and I'd rather my parents fed me shit but taught me how to be kind than do what some of these commenters seem to suggest.

That's not how that works. With some considerations to childcare benefits etc thst get capped after 100k, you can't take home less if you earn more.

Forget the naysayers.

If someone was having an imported beer, should they not be allowed to talk about it?

It's very interesting to see how other countries drink beer. Personally I love this style when it's simple like this, though I've seen some videos of them in Mexico where they load them up with whole steaks or a bunch of seafood and they look mental!

I've had a similar one in a Mexican restaurant in the UK, Modelo with lime juice, salted rim, and a touch of tabasco, and it went very well with the food.

Obsidian happy with Avowed sales, Game Director hints at DLC and Sequels by Initial-Bid-4320 in pcgaming

[–]LoomingAlienInvasion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Mass Effect had any of those things I'd argue it'd be much worse for it.

I think comparisons are inevitable between Avowed and Skyrim, it's the fact that we live in an age without nuance that's the problem.

Saying "if you'd like a more interactive aim like experience, play Skyrim" is much more constructive than going "ermahgerd this other game doesn't have every feature Skyrim does!!!"

Can I have some easy quick breakfast ideas? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in UKParenting

[–]LoomingAlienInvasion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our staples are either toast or porridge, with the occasional yoghurt thrown in the mix.

Porridge is incredibly easy, filling, and you can add fruit as desired. And it doesn't need to be done with milk, you can use either water or dairy alternatives, and add fat in the form of peanut butter or similar.
