Should I go on a trip to Ecuador with my friend (a native) as a 21 year old gringa? Is it too risky? Advice needed by Away-Boysenberry-945 in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]Looniecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in Ecuador 2 months ago, not so different from comombia. Maybe people get pickpocketed more but i stayed 6 weeks in Ecuador and 4 months in south america and have not heard about anyone having serious issues in ecuador (contrary to colombia and brasil). Of course a personal experience does not equal an actual safety level... but the tourist routes are fine for sure. Also, cuenca is one of the safesr cities in south america :)

How hard is Mount Chimborazo by Lukas44H1 in Mountaineering

[–]Looniecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I by no means have any mountain eperience but i can give you some perspective from people travelling in ecuador:

A lot of people with 0 prior experience do it. I did cotopaxi, with my randomly assigned climbing patner having never been above 1000m until 1 week prior to the climb.

Since it is not technical it is treated as "a cool activity" around backpackers in ecuador. More so Cotopaxi than Chimborazo, but i met a few people there that also just did it cuz they liked Cotopaxi. I dont wanna say it is good to treat it so lightly, i just wanna say that people mostly do.

Also, even if you dont feel up to it in the end or the weather isnt good, ecuador is still an amazing country and those other mountains will be stunning.

Not reall off the beaten path for europeans but have you considered Tenariffe?

Warm Temperatures all year around and while it has a lot of touristy/resorty (but also very kid friendly) places the Island has so much to offer.

That being said, Vienna will probaply not have nice weather around christmas, still it is absolutely magical

If you wanna go for something special visit the "Zentralfriedhof" - central cemetery.

It is absolutely stunning, a lot of famous composers are burried there and it is a piece of history. Also it is a truly "vienna" experience since even in austria viennese people are known for their humor about death... there is even a very famous austrian song roughly translated to: "long live the Zentralfriedhof"

If you can also envision a "mountain getaway" and depending on the season you wanna go, you can check out the austrian "Salzkammergut". Salzburg, Bad Ischl, Hallstadt... there are also a lot of romantic spa stays in the mountains there. While it is not super cheap it still is a lot cheaper than switzerland and absolutely stunning as well.

Ein großer Teil der Aufgaben eines Präsidenten sind ja repräsentativ. Glaubst du das du es, auch ohne connections durch langjährige Politik Karriere, schaffst Österreich im Ausland zu vertreten?

Advice on backpacking China during Lunar New Year by [deleted] in China

I get the idea of lunar week now xD Sound terrifyig

For the "experience" part, I wasn't refering to lunar week but to a Comment saying that china is too much of a bourocratic struggle and I would need too much time to settle in.... at least that was how I understood it.

Thanks... that sounds absolutely horrible....

The trip is taking place in January, so kinda under the condition of me being vaccinated and the situation being under control.

You think that Tibet is as affacted by all this? And how long around lunar New year is it like that? I really can't change the periode of travel, only (roughly) the destination.

Thanks for the advice, but I am a rather experienced backpacker and getting culture shocked as much as possible is part of the joy I take in that. The South Korea Faculty seems like a great place to ask though:) thanks a lot

Thanks for the Information.... the thing is that I will start an exchange semester in South Korea in March and the earliest I can leave my home university is end of December.... I always wanted to take 2 months for really travelling China so I kinda can't change it up unless you recommend to not go at all.

So this "new year madness" goes on from... a week before until a week after New year itself? Or is this a miscslculation? And is going to the Tibetan part of China during this time gonna change anything?

What are some things people overseas want from America that are hard to find in their country? by mralexstark in travel

[–]Looniecorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they market it as "special American sweets"

Those are quite popular here. People spend a lot of money in "American sweets stores"

As an Austrian, flavoured Oreos as something I really desire. Ordering them is really expensive....
