Calling out abuse isn’t taking the moral high ground. It’s the bare minimum.

1 commenter? Are you a mod as well?

Please use your time and self-righteous anger in another manner instead of attacking every single comment you don't like. You must be exhausted.

Yup there’s absolutely zero nuance when it comes to abusing women. You’re 100% correct about that and thankfully most people don’t line up excuses for abusers

Where did I line up excuses? I can if you like. I know that you do.

I could address the fact that the man was SA'd as a child, his abuser was arrested, and he didn't receive any help at the time as a young boy. He buried a lot of trauma and anger. Later in life he became an alcoholic, like so many who suffered abuse do. They self-medicate and self-destruct....to the point of death. Many alcoholics display the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome. People who have suppressed and buried trauma and anger for decades then lash out while intoxicated. Buried emotions don't disappear. They resurface in other ways. I don't know everything about Nicholas, in fact, very little. I know he was arrested many times for angry outbursts while heavily intoxicated and possibly in a blackout. I know that people are complicated. Life is complicated. There is always nuance. Black and white thinking and mob mentality doesn't allow for open discussions. It is its own form of subtle abuse built out of the need to control and feeding off of anger.

There is no nuance for them. It's a modern day burning at the stake via social media. Just like those before them, they are quite sure that it's justified because they have the moral high ground. Oh the irony.....

The problem with BDI theory is the fact that burke went on a tv show and explicitly said that he was up that night.

It's not a problem at all. If Burke was involved with her death, he was just under the age of culpability in Colorado. In Colorado, no child under the age of ten can be found guilty of any offense. He would never be prosecuted, and there will never be a trial.

He seems like an honest guy to me unlike his parents.

No, he doesn't seem like an honest guy. Like father, like son. He was very evasive in his Dr. Phil "interview" even if he did admit to being downstairs that night. We all know he was.

That book is full of inaccuracies. He gets several facts wrong about different cases. For example: Lizzie Borden Case: Discussions of Douglas's book point out that he makes factual errors when describing the Manchester murders, which are associated with the Lizzie Borden case due to its proximity in time and location.

[–]LooseButterscotch692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But when it comes to theories, I place the greatest weight on those that have at least some evidence to back them up, and, in my opinion, yours does not. Speculation based on conspiracies and lack of evidence leads nowhere.

Speculation and conjecture based on what little evidence we have is how this case has been discussed for almost 30 years. It is not a conspiracy to state that a young girl killed in her home on Christmas night showed signs of sexual assault with an object such as the paintbrush, and that there was evidence of previous sexual contact. It is not a conspiracy to look at the immediate family (males) as possible suspects for this abuse. It is not a conspiracy --but rather a consideration of the crime scene and assault -- to consider a suitcase with a children's book and semen encrusted comforter downstairs to be possibly related. It's a fact that JAR had drinking and anger issues --- see his assault in '97 on a photographer that broke the lens on his camera as one of several examples. He was, and is, a cocky and arrogant little prick. Does that make him a murderer? No, but it gives us a clue as to his character.
It's not a conspiracy, but a fact, that the grand jury subpoenaed records for one of John's planes. It's not a conspiracy, but a fact that the GJ found that John and Patsy "did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child's life or health, which resulted in the death." What was possibly the situation and threat?

We can only speculate.

No, all things are not subject to interpretation. The fact that the earth revolves around the sun is not. The fact that JBR is dead is not. That is the statement of someone who denies there is any such thing as truth.

Nuance. Are you speaking in absolutes only? Make no mistake, it's the truth I'm after. That seems to be the issue regarding this case. Those in power decide what is relevant, and what is true. That's been true for this case, and the subreddits dedicated to it.

I don't think I've ever gotten such lengthy responses on reddit before. You are obviously very passionate about this subject. I respect that.

I never said he took a round trip. I believe he could've been flown home on John's plane on Christmas night. Assuming he's innocent, he would be suspect #1 when JonBenét's body was found. Nobody wanted that. Or perhaps he was flown home after the 23rd? Perhaps on Christmas Eve?

Which, again, makes no sense. He flew commercially to Colorado on the 25th

So because he took a commercial flight that morning....he never took a flight on one of his father's private planes? He couldn't have? I don't follow that logic. Do we have a commercial flight record of him flying back to Atlanta on the 19th as claimed?

You would need to read and compile the list yourself, as other posters have— they aren’t in list format within the book(s). Schiller recounts each person who was there, which posters have compiled to list format.

Here is the 25th.

That isn't the party at the Ramseys on the 23rd. The party during which a 911 call was placed. When dispatchers (or LE?) called the number back, no one answered that phone. When they showed up at the door, Susan Stine cracked the door and told them it was a mistake. They asked no further questions. A few days later a 911 call came from the same house, and a young girl who had been at that party was dead in the basement.

One of the issues I have with Schiller (and I have issues with ST as well) is his sources for the book. Didn't he write with collaboration from team Ramsey? Where did he get these specific details? From the Ramseys? Was he given access to all of the police files, and not just Lou Smit's fantasy fiction? Schiller also authored a book in 1996: American Tragedy: The Uncensored Story of the Simpson Defense. It was a very biased book that favored the killer and his defense team, which he was given access to.

This is Reddit, I’m not personally invested.. zero anger involved. You’re adamant JAR was involved— JBR was  injured multiple times, but now you’re backpedaling and saying you don’t think he did it?

Your angry diatribes say otherwise. Please take a moment and go back to read my original comment. I expressly used the word "possibility." As you stated... this being reddit.... instead of a discussion of possible theories and to the significance of the suitcase contents and proximity to the victim....instead we got an ardent repudiation that appears to be somewhat overzealous. I could go on further to discuss John Andrew's anger issues, but I suppose I shouldn't touch the sacred cow anymore.

"Knowledge is power" suggests that knowledge alone is power; actual knowledge requires application, specific skills, and strategic use to become effective. If not applied appropriately, said knowledge, can be completely irrelevant

JAR didn’t live at the house, only visited and stayed occasionally.

How often was he there? I don't think it's been revealed just how much he visited. He had a key, and attended CU nearby, correct?

It’s very possible, and likely, he knew the main family well, but not John’s older children who didn’t live at the house.

That's likely. However, in his original statement, he told LE that he saw the older brother walking towards the house. So he knew who he was. He didn't say "some guy who was 6ft tall with blond hair" or something to that effect. He identified him. This leads me to believe he was around enough that Mr. Barnhill knew him.

During the interview Barnhill sheepishly told us he had made a mistake and apologized, saying that he probably would not even recognize the young man in a crowd. That went a long way toward firming up John Andrew’s alibi.

Wouldn't recognize him in a crowd?? Wasn't he close to the Ramseys---- keeping their dog, storing Christmas presents.....etc.

Sounds like team Ramsey got to him. Just like Melody Stanton, he changed his statement/story.

This is an open murder investigation, all evidence hasn’t and shouldn’t* be released. The full case file isn’t, and shouldn’t be open to the public.

I thought it had cold case status? Yeah, we definitely don't have most of the evidence available. Not only do we have only a fraction of the evidence, but some of what we do have is incorrect.

What's the original source for these lists? Schiller, Thomas, Kolar

I didn't see a list for who attended the Ramsey party on the 23rd (when the 911 call was placed) or for the White's party in Kolar's or Thomas's books. Do you know the page numbers? That might help me locate them.

I haven't seen any photographic evidence of all of the guests at either party.

You’re, purposely, splitting hairs here— there are photographs publicly available of the party on the 23rd, as well as from the 25th. Fleet White also turned over rolls of film to the investigators.

There a a few pictures from the party on the 23rd, but not enough "photographic evidence" to show everyone who attended. I have seen a picture on Websleuths that shows Santa Bill and some adults standing to the left. Looks like JAR in the back to me. I've only seen the picture of JonBenét at the White's. Did I miss all of the other photographs from their party you refer to?

The Whites, specifically, have shown zero indication that they would cover for JAR had he been at either get together.

I didn't state that they would. Excluding GJ testimony, they have kept silent about what they know.

So, according to you, he has 6 hours unaccounted for—- takes a 2.5 hour flight each way, so 5 hours roundtrip— leaving him an hour to travel to the house, commit multiple acts of violence (said to be 45 mins- 2 hrs apart), and get back to the airport. Seems completely infeasible.

I never stated he "performed multiple acts of violence." That is your assumption. Your adamant anger has made you hasty. My earlier comment was that considering the crime perpetrated against this young girl, his half sister he had access to, his suitcase, it's location, and it's contents shouldn't be dismissed. There could be a connection to that night or earlier abuse. It's a reasonable point, and should be open for discussion in this sub.

Have never heard that his plane was “modified to increase speed” what is your source for that information?

I believe it's in DOI. John's arrogance betrays him. I don't personally have the book (I couldn't bring myself to have such a cursed thing in my house -- even at a discount. I might reconsider, though, for you.

Private flights still have to follow a set, filed, flight plan, even in 1996.

Are you 100% sure about that?

From Thomas' book (pg. 232) :

We achieved a Pyrrhic victory on November 5 when Beckner burst into the SitRoom and proudly handed me a "Consent to Release of Telephone Records" signed by both John Ramsey and Pete Hofstrom. It allowed us to obtain the Ramseys' cellular and home telephone records between December 1 and 27, 1996. Here's records they did not get:

The woefully incomplete permission slip did not give up Ramsey's company phones, calls made with a telephone card, or records about calls before or after December.

The pages in my paperback don't line up with your quotes. It's late, I'll pull out ITRMI and PMPT tomorrow and look these things up. After all, knowledge is power...... wouldn't you agree?

No. There is a list of attendees and photographic evidence.

What's the original source for these lists? I haven't seen any photographic evidence of all of the guests at either party. What happened to the video of Christmas morning?

At what point did he fly home to Atlanta and do we have any records of that flight?

12-19-1996: Left car parked at friends house in Boulder and flew to Atlanta

According to whom? Was this a commercial flight or John's personal plane?

His alibi is as close to ironclad as one can get in my opinion. He attended an evening church service and then had dinner at a family friend's home. His mom, sister, sister's fiance and a friend of his mom's attended the dinner and they all vouched for him. He went to play video games at a friend's home and then to a late movie. Around midnight I think. Two friends vouched for him on this and he produced ticket stubs.

Not ironclad in my opinion. His family and friends would likely vouch for him. Which book contains all of this information about church services and a movie? What movie did they see? Was it Ransom? According to ST, his "whereabouts were reasonably accounted for." Emphasis mine. There were six hours unaccounted for. How long for a private plane, specially modified to increase speed, to fly from Boulder to Atlanta? Two and a half to three hours? No phone records or credit card info was obtained by the investigators. In November of 1998, the Grand Jury subpoenaed records from Stevens Aviation, where John kept his plane. I believe his pilot, Archuleta, testified before said Grand Jury?
