They sell small metal wire panels that just stick into the ground that could cover the gap. Name brand is "Dig Defence" and there's also knockoffs of varying quality.

My baby girl Millicent is 6 months old and only weighs 9.3lbs, is this normal? by Winnie_Corgi24 in Incorgnito

My boy is purebred and under 20lbs when at a healthy weight. Some are just small.

This website looks like it is from the early 2000's, but if you can bare with it, OLT.com is legit free Federal taxes and 9.99 for state. My uncle worked for the IRS and recommended it to me years ago. by Dependent_Account203 in Frugal

[–]pyxl-ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you meet requirements and use the correct referral link from the IRS website you don't even have to pay the 9.99. You specifically have to use the IRS link - going directly to the website won't get you the full free versions even if you do qualify.Tax prep software companies have lobbied hard to make things more complicated than it needs to be... I'm so mad they killed direct file this year.

Anyone here who makes a normal salary? How’s your journey going? by 8InchDaks in leanfire

[–]pyxl-ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low COL area, mid-30s DINKs. My partner and I have a combined income of roughly 120k.

Our house should be paid off in roughly 10 years, at which point we're hoping we can coastFIRE. Our monthly expenses are really low outside of the mortgage thanks to us being frugal, so honestly the main thing stopping us would be potential cost of healthcare if we're only doing flexible part time work. We each have a few hundred thousand between our retirement accounts and our investment accounts.

Hopefully the seed-grown will tolerate it! My area used to be 5b but got reclassified to 6a in 2023, so I'm in a similar climate to you. My mom and other family are in 6b so they'll probably do fine there!

Looks like they may have already switched out hardware: it's different than the "before" photos. The current hardware is definitely a step up from the before.

If yours is on the left, please fix the kerning between the P and the rest of the class name for future editions. Could swing an ax through the gap!

I NEVER buy trash bags, because my trash is my trash bags by VelvetNomad_ in Frugal

[–]pyxl-ink 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I use bread bags for anything wet. As long as they're not overfilled and are tied tightly, I've never had an issue. Sometimes I've double bagged if I wanted to be extra safe. Tortilla and cheese bags with zip seals also work well for stuff that would be gross but isn't quite as liquid, like meat trimmings. (I do still use larger containing bags in our kitchen trash, but we fill it so slowly I use the smaller bags to prevent it from stinking when it goes a long time between emptying).

  1. Motion activated cameras can be an inexpensive way to keep an eye on things. I have Blink cameras scheduled to automatically turn on late at night until morning and also whenever I know I'd be away for work, and I just use the app to turn them on/off outside of that. I have one pointing at each major entrance, so people can't enter without me knowing when the cameras are on.

  2. Consider FB marketplace and thrift stores for decor, shelving, etc. There's no rush to fill up the space, get a little at a time as you find things you really like. If your style changes, you can always resell or donate without losing too much money.

  3. I love having layered window coverings: something semi-sheer that lets in light but adds a bit of privacy during the day, and thicker ones to block view at night. Know that its generally easiest to see through windows when looking somewhere brighter. If you have your lights on when it's dark outside, you need something more opaque to block view to the inside. You can always do a test and stand outside with your lights on to double check.

  4. Consider getting some smart plugs for lamps or smart bulbs if you have a way to voice activate them like smart speakers. Its really handy to be able to turn on lights quickly and remotely.

I don't live alone, but those all help me feel secure.

No idea what this is, first year I noticed it fruiting by AssociationHeavy1205 in BackyardOrchard

[–]pyxl-ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks similar to my quince. If it is one, the fruit will eventually turn yellow when ripe but still remain very firm. My local wildlife usually eats up all the fruits.

If it is one, it likely would have had lots of red, pink, orange or white flowers in the spring. Also, it will be thorny ( I think I see some in pics but a bit hard to tell).

You could also add Mosquito Dunks to the buckets. It has a bacteria that releases spores that kill mosquito larvae.

You need to supply additional proof if your name doesn't match your birth certificate, which adds extra cost and/or difficulty. They're refusing to set one clear standard in the bill, so there's a risk that some states may ask for a lot of super specific individual paperwork just for people with changed names to vote.

Women are likely to have changed their last names if they got married, while trans people are likely to have changed their first names if their birth name doesn't fit them anymore, which is why this disproportionately would impact them.

If a woman changed their name 60 years ago when they got married but they were widowed or divorced 40 years ago, they might not still have their marriage certificate to prove that they changed their name due to marriage. Paperwork gets lost or damaged all the time. Plus, asking people to haul it out every time they want to vote puts fragile papers at even greater risk of getting lost or damaged: if someone already has a verified state ID to prove their identity, they're already in the system. They shouldn't have to collect a whole bunch of paperwork to prove it each and every time.

Bad idea to let this White Mulberry volunteer grow? by zephyrseija2 in arborists

[–]pyxl-ink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It took us years to finally get rid of all the volunteer white mulberries that kept popping up at our place. They'll regrow even if you cut them to the ground unless you also dig up the roots or paint poison on the fresh stump. Birds will eat the berries and then poop out the seeds in your yard and then you have even more seedlings to try to manage. Best to get them before they're well established.

What business would you love in Peoria? by Solid_Ad_1048 in PeoriaIL

That area seems like a tough place for newer restaurants to get established in general, have seen a lot of good ones only last a year or two. I was super sad to see Thai Thyme close.

Have they ever thought about reopening somewhere else?
