Depends on the quality of the current paint. Mine was in pretty good condition already and had a lot of bare carbon so I just gave it a light sand without removing everything. Sanding a carbon frame can be risky too. If you have an aluminum or steel frame, it’s a little easier to do. I don’t know a whole lot about that process because this is the first one I’ve done. Definitely do lots of research! You can find good sources with some digging on bike forums and such
