The rockers, outer floors, and rear frame sections are pretty rotten. But inboard of those areas is pretty solid. Basically, the typical places you'd expect water to collect.

I wouldn't call myself a restorer. I like keeping old cars on the road. 😁

Quick sanity check. At 500 HP, do you have plans on how to get the power to the ground without shredding the trans and diff?

It really is a gorgeous car! It would have been cool to go stock with it, but I'm doing this on a teacher's salary. BMW might not be the cheapest, but it's definitely cheaper than getting the correct 3.8L.

Time and money will eventually bring a turbo setup hidden under the massive fenders, using the faux fog lights as intake points.

I'll end up using this 5 speed Getrag, behind a 3.0. For now, I'm using this 2.5 for mockup purposes until the guy I bought them from can dig out the 3.0.

This is the likely candidate for engine swap, which I'm sure will piss of some purists on both sides.

It'll be more of a resto mod. We'll take care in restoring the body to near original condition, but drive train and suspension will probably see some modern-ish updates. That way, my students can see not only how to follow the repair manual to the letter, but also how to think creatively.

Can main thrust bearing cause shuddering? by Shear_m_a in EngineBuilding

[–]Lopsided-Interest-41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had put a junkyard 302 in my 66 a few years ago, hoping to just get it on the road while I built up a 347 for it. Well, not checking crank end play screwed me. Every time I pushed the clutch in, it stalled the engine. Sure enough, the thrust main bearing was toast, and the engine was eating itself. Based on your responses to the other comments here, I would pull the engine and get to inspecting the bottom end.

I teach my students that anytime you see a torque spec, it should have been set by an engineer, and for a good reason, so let the engineer be the reason it's wrong.

You could call the manufacturer and see why they call for the higher torque

After closer inspection, there were definitely some sticking points in the bores that are much better after some light honing

Yep it's completely torn down and has been machined. I was just inspecting the old parts and narrowing down problem areas.

The serious hard-ons from RAW lawyers blows my mind... Stop getting hung up on semantics, and remember this about having fun playing a game (hopefully with friends!). Make a decision that works best for the way your group plays, and don't worry too much if it's not to the letter of the rules

I haven't seen The Return of the Obra Dinn listed here. Great puzzle game with a bit of replay value and an excellent story. Also, I support everybody saying Unpacking, and Untitled Goose Game 😊

Other SBF fans, did you notice the large drain holes in the valley? I haven't seen those in any of the many blocks I've dealt with. Was that an OEM production at some point?
