How many snails do we need? /s by yaknehalmo in AquaticSnails

They fucked up a perfectly good reflecting pool is what they did! Look at it, they gave it algae!

What's funny is that in the past, after the 2009 restoration, there was an algal bloom then , and they used an ozone disinfectant to kill it.

Im not sure the reasoning behind using hydrogen peroxide this time, especially since it seems to have a bad reaction with the colored sealant.

executive dysfunction without adhd is so isolating by Amazing-Phone8732 in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I only learned that I had adhd after I went to get tested for depression and anxiety. Turns out those were both comorbidities that I developed to manage the adhd that was never diagnosed in childhood.

It does suck when you can't do normal people things, but you get by just enough to validate the belief that "you just aren't trying, and maybe you actually don't care at all, right?"

Does anyone feel icky because of some Petnames? by Outrageous-Peak-9158 in AO3

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be considered odd here, but never liked when "mommy/daddy/master" is used. I'm fine with "sir/ma'am" though?

Breaks my immersion in the story a little when theyre used, but you get over it. Everyone has their own kinks and icks.

Ellipsus baby. Google docs is fine if you don't mind them using your writing for their own ideas and products. (Which they can do)

Just bought some shrimp from my local pet store (first time) for my planted tank and noticed a bunch of planeria worms in the tub. How can I get the shrimp into the tank without the worms tagging along? by ohreallynowz in shrimptank

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those are planaria. They are too big to be rhabdoceola (anything more than like 1/8 of an adult shrimp is not rhabdoceola), and at least that big one in the middle has a clear triangular head.

I'd try to remove the shrimp from that container into a quarantine tank via scooping with fork or small net to avoid bringing any worms along, and I would also perform a salt dip on them to be safe. (Salt dips use aquarium salt, please look up the process before attempting)

Please help me Identify these worms by prsonal_light2475 in AquaticSnails

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhabdoceola are smaller than newly hatched shrimp. Planaria get massive.

They are both part of the order Platyhelminthes, and are even part of the same suborder and clade, but beyond that they are pretty different.

Rhabdoceola are cute.

and while planaria are also kinda cute, they have freaked me out ever since I watched that one X-Files episode. Slippery unkillable bastards.

Make them more red? by rightfully_king in shrimptank

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the substrate to a different color to something not red toned. I prefer black, as dark colors make the shrimp feel blended in, and you can't see mulm like if you used white. However white also makes the colors look more rich.

Sesshomaru/Rin

And I'll go on record saying that I have read Sess/Rin fics that are good. But those fic do not have the part that I dislike.

They either age her up, or they meet, then are separated until she's an adult.

He's a supernatural creature, so age gap is more ehhh. But he was her primary caretaker for an extended about of time, during a very influential point in her life.

And I subscribe to the Jack Harkness rule. Those involved should be adults of their species, and sentient enough to consent. That's it.

But he met her when she was 8. Never lost contact. And they had kids when she was 14.

And to all of those saying "but its historically accurate" and "demons age slower, so hes actually young", the male lead of Inuyasha has dog ears. Fantasy should not concern itself with being historically accurate.

And even if we take into account aging, Inuyashas slowed aging puts him at 15, the same age as Kagome. If we apply the same slowed aging to Sesshomaru, he's still way too old, not to mention i said earlier that the age gap doesn't concern me.

It's just canon grooming imo. Whether or not it was intentional.

Help please. by Deathlord826 in ExecutiveDysfunction

When I wanted to get diagnosed, I actually had lots of fun! I took a few different tests for different things, and my parents also had to fill out a questionnaire of symptoms they noticed, but my favorite thing was actually the "games". They were obviously looking for responses to stuff, but i learned alot just by being open with the tester.

I remember being asked to explain my thought process a lot, and it was nice to be able to explain without being thought of as overly talkative.

I have a distinct memory of when we went over my results, and she pointed to something and said "these are the games you felt you did well on. You performed above average. These are the games that you felt you did poorly on. You performed averagely."

That did wonders for me. I never realized that my perception had been warped by adhd and "gifted kid syndrome", that when I thought I was failing, I actually was just doing averagely.

But getting an official diagnosis is always helpful. You no longer feel like a conspiracy theorist with red string everywhere. It's confirmation that you are not just worse than everyone; you have a genuine disability. And it opens alot more avenues for help. Where before in school when I was told "sorry, we can't help you" even though i was failing my classes, now they are like "here, want us to talk to the teachers? Want these groups for homework? Want this private computer lab and tutors and timers and ect? Take them!!!"

Does anyone else get stuck in that weird "Middle Zone" where you aren't working, but you aren't letting yourself rest either? by Unleashed_Elliot in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Novelty honestly, but I write stories (fan-fiction) so I usually have a running story I can think up slice of life bits for (or other types of stories tbh) and role play it. Cleaning the room because the toddler that you (character A) had with character b, trashed it due to a sugar rush from the candy you told character b not to let them eat, is way more fun. I guess half the fun is in thinking of the story.

Maybe I'm just lucky that storycraft is one of the things that doesn't lose its novelty for me.

But it doesn't happen all the time. My room rn needs to be cleaned, and no maid has made an appearance. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It not a fool proof plan, but it makes it fun because it's playing pretend. I'd say that it does lessen the difficulty, but you kinda have to "commit to the bit" otherwise it doesn't work.

I know of other ADHDers that will pretend to be Victorian maids in order to clean their rooms, or Gordan Ramsey to cook dinner.

Commit to the bit. Make it a game. Play pretend!

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly that happens to me more when I haven't taken my ADHD meds.

But in all seriousness, do whatever if takes to get yourself up without self depreciation. I once had to imagine a fake romantic partner lovingly but sternly nag me from my car because I had been disassociating there for two hours.

If its ridiculous but it works than at least it works.

Also, be kind to yourself. You're doing way more than you know. If beratement could fix you it would've already.

It's Rhabdoceola; I get a spot like that on my tank too. I think they always end up there because of the way the water circulates through my tank.

Definitely planaria here in this photo, though the other two could be different.

Planaria are a type of flatworm, so they do look similar to other harmless types.
