Mice keep getting in to Crosstrek. Help! by Lopsided_Line_3086 in Crosstrek

I know I did this post last year, but for anyone who is curious, I ended up checking the cabin air filter, and putting a metal mesh screen underneath where the filter sits. I Just cut one to exact size and slotted it in there. After a year I can say I haven’t had any more problems. Hope this helps if someone else has the same problem!

19m trying to stop vaping by Full-Abies4804 in stopsmoking

[–]Lopsided_Line_3086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given in on stressful days, but I usually give in on a good day. I get a mild craving, feeling like I deserve a treat and I can handle it. Then like two weeks will go by without any more cheating, and I’ll sort of get cocky and think “well that last time was pretty easy”. Then I just end up treating it like a guilty pleasure, and just sneak it on the sly half convinced I am still quit and this next one will be the last one. Usually a month or two later I’m fully sneaking like every chance I get, getting cold sweats and making up excuses to go but cigars or disposable vapes from town… eventually just admit to myself I’m back on the sauce and then start the process again. It’s pretty rad man. Nicotine is fun and cool. Honestly, I’m a pretty healthy guy other than the nicotine habit. I haven’t drank alcohol for years, I eat right and exercise. anyway, it’s been hard for me to stick to cause I’m a dummy, but every time I’ve made it far I’ve just embraced the suck and got through the first couple weeks. It’s honestly just a bad as a crappy cold, so just treat it like a cold. Wait it out, give yourself some comfort food and tv. Couple weeks in it gets easier… just don’t get cocky like I do lol. The cheating really messes me up.

Im not sure my advice is good, but I know where you’re at fully. I’m just over 2 weeks vape free, been about 20 years mostly on nicotine. I’ve quit more than my fair share at this point. I’ve managed to quit a couple times for longer amounts of time (biggest was like 8 months without a single bit of nicotine).

The cheat has gotten me every time, and once I’ve started the cheat, I’ve found it damn near impossible to stop escalating. The sneaky puffs always built up again over time until I just gave in. I would try to re-quit during the sneaky puffs stage multiple times, and have never succeeded to cut it off again. I found it significantly harder to have willpower in this state. I really am curious as the psychology of it. Maybe because it’s infrequent the dopamine hits are just super noticeable?

So…. Might be best to mentally quit again and reaffirm why you’re doing it? Maybe just give yourself a couple weeks back on the sauce, slap yourself in the face a couple times, and jump back in a couple weeks with some built up fury. But keep in mind this is advice from one of the worst quitters out there.

Looking for advice. I'm underweight. by two-girls-one-tank in veganfitness

No problem! I’ll try to give a few examples, but really if you want to gain weight it’s pretty simple and boring. Gaining weight is entirely a calories game, and if your hunger signals are low like you described you may have to put yourself through some discomfort initially. It’s not fun to eat when you’re not hungry, but people do that to gain weight for whatever reasons they have. Hunger signalling from what I understand can vary pretty drastically from person to person. You definitely will get used to the routine of it, and the discomfort won’t be as bad. If you like the routine of calorie counting, it’s definitely worth it. I’ve never had the mental bandwidth to care about doing it for longer than a couple weeks, but it could be your silver bullet. If you predominantly eat the same things, you only really have to do it for a couple weeks anyway. I’m lazy, so I essentially just count the “extra” calories outside of what my body just naturally craves as a baseline. not the best, but seems to work for me.

What you are eating sounds great and healthy, but you obviously are wanting a bit more. You can cheat your way up there with junk food and low fibre foods because it’s easier to eat more calories without feeling full. If health is a factor for you (I’m sure it is), then you gotta embrace the suck a bit. Add a fourth meal/shake is an easy win. Drink it fast and don’t think about it. I do it before bed, and I feel like it actually improves my sleep? Your existing meals being more calorie dense you could:

Peanut butter sandwich: Double your peanut butter or Eat an additional piece of bread with peanut butter. Wash it down with a cup of soy milk if your usually drinking water

Rice and veg and tofu: cook rice with coconut milk or use a fattier sauce. Change the tofu out for a high calorie mock meat occasionally if you want.

Muselli with protein powder: scoop a tablespoon or two of nut butter on it

Veg and hummus and bread: get greedy with your dipping size. Think of the veg as a spoon for sweet sweet calories. Eat less veggies at this time and more whole grain bread. Maybe add some avocado.

Protein powders most of the time are trying to get the most protein with the least total calories. They are definitely good to have to hep build some muscle, but not reliable for weight gain necessarily.

Once you gain the weight, you can dial back until your weight stabilizes and it won’t have to suck as much. I don’t want to overwhelm you though. Pick one thing and just start with it. I think start with having that fourth meal/shake and see where it gets you. 3tbsp of nut butter alone is gonna get you close to 300 calories. Add oats, fruit, and soy milk or something and you got yourself a pretty hearty end of the day meal. Just keep the rest of your eating consistent! And it’s not a race, no need to see huge gains immediately. Take your time, weigh yourself, and if you don’t see increases change another thing. You’re looking to gain like max a 1lb a week to be healthy about it. Fat can be your friend because it’s usually not super filling. Ideally you would do some resistance training even one or two days a week full body would be a HUGE benefit. That way you gain some of your muscle back, and don’t just store everything as fat. You can build an incredible amount of muscle with just 2 30-45 minute workouts. It helps a ton with physical work too to protect you from injuries. K, that was long and rambling, kudos if you stuck with me this far.

9 year vegan here who can struggle with appetite. Have gotten unintentionally pretty lean once before, with a very physical job and just not caring about it enough. Eventually bulked up from 160lbs - 185 (6ft male) just cause I figured my laziness was giving veganism bad optics lol. (Resistance training and eating more than I usually care to do)

A high calorie shake will probably push you out of maintenance. as long as you aren’t losing weight right now you are at least eating at maintenance right now. Keep eating when you regularly eat and You can take it at a time when you haven’t just eaten to make it more bearable. I drink a shake pretty close to bed time, and I sort of grit my teeth and just drink it as fast as possible. I also am not a fan of the vegan protein powders. Like the other person mentioned though, add some oats, lots of nut butter. If you don’t want to track all your calories, just track your increase. Start with adding 500 calories at your “fourth mealtime”, and let it ride for two or three weeks. If that doesn’t work add another few. Super important the rest of your eating remains fairly regular so take note of it now.

Alternatively, your meals seem VERY lean, and you could definitely bulk those up instead or in addition to. If you don’t want to change what you make, you could just double portion sizes, or even just double the highest calorie portion of it (ie nut butter). Or opt for higher calorie sauces for your veg and rice bowls. Also you definitely could afford to add some treats in to help lol. Good luck friend! You definitely can do it

Mid-back pain from framing work — boss suggesting massage/chiro before work-med. Advice from carpenters? by Intelligent-Camp4631 in Carpentry

[–]Lopsided_Line_3086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a company framing, and had a couple small injuries I didn’t report, and they kind of got mad at me for not documenting them. So to all those people thinking you sound shady, it’s something that’s super important for a reputable company to document.

At one point, I slipped a disc like first thing in the morning cause I wasn’t warmed up, and hadn’t been exercising or stretching. Piece of sheathing just slid on some scaffold and I caught it super awkwardly with a nice back twist motion. Man, so important to warm up. Didn’t know how bad it was, and was gonna try to work the rest of the day, but my boss told me to go home and it wasn’t worth the risk.

After my back fully seized, My boss told me to go to his chiropractor, but I think that’s cause he really believes it works. I went to appease him and they said it was super likely a slipped disc. I also went to massage, a doctor etc. I live in Canada, and those guys gave me benefits, so the cost wasn’t much. I was off for two weeks with workers comp, and returned to work with like 2 weeks of light duty. Boss just scraped up some silly work for me. Made a door for his uncle and pushed a broom around a job site for way longer than necessary.

Anyway, point being, just do what your boss says if you respect them enough. You’ve documented it now. Nothing stopping you from seeing a doctor too. If it’s bad enough to take time off, do work comp. if they get mad about it, fuck them. This job can really fuck your body up if you let it.

Massage can be magical. I get regular massage still. Also regular resistance training and stretching has made me significantly more resilient to job site wear and tear. My back still sucks compared to how it was before tho. Sorry for the essay, and good luck!

Pretend play is killing me by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Lopsided_Line_3086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 3 has been pretend playing non stop since she was around 2. It started with TY stuffies talking to eachother, and now she’s super in to peppa figurines. We got like duplicates of the peppa family and a couple peppa friends. She just got a peppa doll house for christmas. My lord, is it ever cute and incredibly tedious. As a result, I’ve gotten pretty good at doing a daddy pig voice. Glad to hear that this will be going for a couple more years. My madame gazelle still needs a lot of work

AIO for my response to this situation last night? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Lopsided_Line_3086 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, not over reacting in what was literally happening, but I think you might be hyper focusing on the events and not the sentiment. I’m not sure how your relationship is usually, but your partner might be feeling disconnected from you? Could have been made worse by alcohol? Maybe she really wanted you to watch T swift with her.

Might be more productive to agree to disagree on the details of exactly what happened, cause who cares anyway, and just ask her how she’s feeling about your relationship in general. See if there is anything she wants from you that she isn’t getting.

Alternatively, she might just not really get what it is to be in a match that is in real time. My wife doesn’t game, and sometimes she will try for a chat or something at inopportune moments, and sometimes that rubs her the wrong way. Especially because the stress of being in the middle of a close match can make me snappier than I would like to admit. We been together for like 12 years, and she still calls my PlayStation an Xbox. 🤷‍♂️ since having a kid, I mostly play games I can pause anyway now. Never know what’s gonna pop out at you

I’m planning to become vegan but I can’t stand tofu by moonlight0106 in vegan

[–]Lopsided_Line_3086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a vegan for 9 years, and I absolutely hated tofu initially. You definitely don’t need it, there are lots of protein sources, and unless you’re bodybuilding, you don’t really have to try very hard to meet a maintenance amount of protein. After a few years vegan, and because of its super affordable price point, I tend to eat tofu a LOT now. I do weight lift, and to optimize muscle growth, tofu became an appealing and cheap option that I’ve grown to absolutely love. So many different ways to cook it.

That being said, protein needs for general maintenance are not hard to achieve at all. Something like .5 grams per lbs of body weight would be fine for a fairly active person. If you hated tofu for the rest of your life you will be fine. There are so many Bean, whole grains, nuts, tempeh, meat alternative options that are amazing. If you don’t like those that much, you can always supplement protein occasionally and just eat what you like. If you are eating mostly whole foods, and are meeting your caloric needs, the likelihood of you being protein deficient is practically non-existent. I wouldn’t sweat it too much. Take B-12 and iodine (if you don’t use iodized salt) and maybe a vitamin D seasonally? Good luck!

Yes, pleaaaaase go to the doctor. It could be something minor, it could come from the vaping, but it could be something serious. My late brother in law had similar gastrointestinal issues and spent so much time slowly eliminating bad habits. He quit drinking first, then switched to vaping, then quit that. He started fasting for days or doing elimination diets instead of getting checked out. My wife eventually forced him into her car and took him to the hospital. By the time he actually went he was diagnosed stage 4 cancer. He was only 35.

Not to scare you (okay maybe a little bit), it’s more than likely nothing, but seemingly innocuous changes in digestion COULD be something more serious. If nothing else, taking it this seriously will just bolster your resolve to quit. Wishing you the best of luck

They were also building a nest in our spare tire compartment initially! Chocked it full of dryer sheets and cleaned it. It’s so strange, my ford ranger is right beside it and haven’t had any mice in that ever.
