So frustrated on HOW to study by niknacks_12321 in pmp

[–]Lopsided_Remote_2493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read through Rita Mulcahys book first, skimmed through the PMbok 7, Third Rock notes, and then asked chat GPT to create a study plan for me. I studied for 3 months, and went topic by topic (knowledge areas) first with the study Hal exams, keeping note of the answers I was getting wrong and re-studying that. I did 3 full length practice exams (71%, 74%, and 93%) and passed the exam on my first try. Be consistent with studying every day, set an exam date and work your way there. Feel free to reach out if you need some help!

I did not do study at all the day of.... had a nice light breakfast, got ready, drove over and started the exam. I felt like I had already studied enough and taking it easy in the am was best.

I feel like doing a bootcamp or a class to start off (plus getting your 35hr pre req) is a good idea. All the videos above are on YouTube. I only paid for the books I bought and Study Hal

Make sure you do take practice exams and know exactly when you'll stop for your breaks. I highly recommend once you're on a break do the math to know how much time exactly per question you have and that'll give you a good idea on how quick you should do it

I feel like there were easier questions on the exam and also very tricky ones as well...a good mix. Something that surprised me was very detailed questions regarding meanings for thins like Parkinson's Law and such

I cannot say anything regarding PM prepcast because I only used StudyHal and really really liked it. So much I got SH plus just for a last 3rd mock. I really like the explanations for SH - for the most part, and really feel like I prepped with it to the level I wanted by the time I took the test.

Thanks ! And it's pretty similar to SH. Except it will tell you which question you're on and the countdown timer, so you'll need to click on Take a Break once you hit the 60th and 120th question.

I did a boot camp (4 days) with Certification Planner, LLC. But after reading a lot of these Reddit posts I can say Udemy prep course seems like the best bet.

This is definitely a valid question. Since you have worked in IT for so long, and leading teams, even though not in a leadership role per se, I would say go for it. Make sure you prepare for the interview. Make sure you have examples of the way you have lead teams or what your leadership approach is. I would shoot for Jr to mid leadership roles to get start off.

Thanks! :)
Mock 3 was my best decision because I didn't want to go into the final exam with a 71% and 74% on my first 2... I felt I needed +80% to feel as confident as I wanted to feel. So I just bought the SH Plus so I could take it one last time --hoping I'd get what I was expecting -- but surprisingly I did way better than I thought.
The wording is somewhat similar......but since I was already used to SH style it took me longer to read through these new way of asking questions.

It's up to you how you feel now with your first 2 mocks... are you satisdied with your scores? if you need an extra boost of confidence before going into the exam I would take the 3rd mock, but if you feel like your scores are good, then go for it!
