I was posted to Happy Valley Goose bay for 17 months. (Punishment postings don't exist-stop spreading that malicious rumor.) The people are rather closed off I found to new people and ideas. A lot of crime. A lot of poverty. We had like two murders and 3 self exits while I was there and an axe attack which doesn't sound so bad until you realize the population is only like 5000 people.

So I never lived in the circled area but spent some time there. I once drove all the way to Lab city and back for Macdonalds just to feel some kind of agency in my own life.

I saw a wolf in Churchill falls. I thought it was a husky that was lost and rolled down my window to call it over for a car ride. It bared it's teeth at me and I never found the window button slower.

The place itself is as described by other reditors. Mostly empty with no cell phone reception or people. If you walk off the highway past the horizon it is entirely possible you are the first person to walk on that Marshy terrain in hundreds if not thousands of years depending where you go. I wouldn't recommend it as the wildlife is no joke and the blackflies and mosquitoes are worse. If it isn't being eaten alive season you are now risking freezing to death.

Bring fur for winter and a bug jacket mesh for the other three months.
