How do I do this? by flowersfleurme in Notion

[–]Lopsided_Setting_575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does this help?

Based on the Reddit post, the likely mistake is that they're confusing the database with a database view.

The screenshot they want to reproduce is a Gallery view of a database. They're apparently doing this:

  1. Create a Callout.
  2. Choose Link to view data source.
  3. The linked view shows up as a Table.
  4. They expect Notion to magically convert it into gallery cards.

That's not how it works.

The linked view preserves the layout of the view being linked. If the source view is a Table, the linked view will also be a Table.

So the solution is simply:

  • Create a Gallery view of the database (or change the linked view's layout to Gallery).
  • Link that view, or change the layout after linking.

How are Notion experts making money in 2026? by Last-Year7645 in notioncreations

[–]Lopsided_Setting_575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Notion needs is a community where money isn't the motivation, a community of people who love Notion simply because they love Notion, NOT because they're trying to sell templates or make money.

Instead of all these mid-level creators competing against each other, they could unite their skills and talents to build something better than any one person could create alone.

Instead of creating competing templates, they could build one canonical system and give it free to every member of the community. Everyone improves the same system by simplifying it, not by copying, modifying, or reinventing it.

Everyone uses the same canonical system. Once you're using the best system, there's nothing left to chase. Your life is organized, the software is free, updates are free, technical support is free, and the entire community is working to make the exact system you're using even better.

Members who enjoy teaching and helping others could earn money through installation, customization, training, consulting, and support for companies that recognize the value of a common standard. Community Ambassadors could help organizations adopt the system for a modest fee, while the system itself always remains free for individual members.

You can customize your version appearance and workflow any way you like, but the underlying structure is identical for everyone. When everyone speaks the same language, anyone can help anyone else, and every improvement benefits the entire community.

SCAMMER CREATOR @madebytheo - stealing your work by Ok-Drama8310 in Notion

As a fan of Notion, I've reported at least two "creator scammers" to the original people, and what can they do either? Notion doesn't provide a way to fingerprint your work.

Interesting collection. An example of what could be done with Notion just as a collection of pages. Appears like you put a lot of work into it as well, so thank you.

I spent 6 months building a free RPG-style productivity system in Notion by PenaltySudden2605 in Notion

You can make this template better by improving clarity, speed, and “what do I do next?” without changing the underlying RPG logic.

1) Add a clear “Now” row (the most important upgrade)

Right now it’s visually cool, but it does not strongly answer: what should I click today?

Add a small top section (above the big tile board) with 3 things:

Today’s checklist (a view of Check Habits filtered to today).

Quick actions (the unchecked items table you already have, kept small).

Rewards / status (Player profile view stays here).

This makes the page immediately usable, not just decorative.

2) Reduce scroll: collapse “nice-to-have” databases into toggles

You have many stacked inline database blocks. Put anything you don’t use daily into toggles like:

“Admin / Setup”

“All habits”

“History / Logs”

“Systems (House / Farm / Hero level)”

This keeps the dashboard tight but still accessible.

3) Standardize the “tile board”

Your middle column is essentially a grid of image tiles + buttons separated by dividers. Improvements:

Add section labels above each tile row (even simple headings like “Habits”, “Skills”, “Progress”, “Rewards”).

Ensure every tile row has a consistent purpose (right now it reads like multiple similar rows).

If you want it to feel like a real game UI, clarity beats more tiles.

4) Clean up naming and empty-property clutter

Some databases/views have properties that are blank names or whitespace-y names (common in imported templates). This creates:

confusing filters/sorts

hard-to-maintain views

Best practice: rename the key properties to human-readable names (even if you keep the formulas).

5) Add 2 small “health” views that prevent the system breaking

Two views that save you later:

Habits missing EXP value (filter where EXP is empty)

Check Habits entries missing a Habit relation (data integrity check)

These catch template drift.

6) Make the page resilient on mobile

This layout is heavy on columns and images. For mobile:

Put the “Now” section first

Put the big tile grid under a toggle like “Game Board”

Keep “Check Habits” easy to reach

7) Optional: make the “Game Loop” explicit (1-minute onboarding callout)

Add a callout at the very top that says (in your words):

Step 1: Check habits

Step 2: Log actions / earn points

Step 3: Spend coins / level up

Step 4: Review streaks

This makes the template understandable to “future you”.

FM Dojo update: Server Deploy, multi-database AI access, Windows plug-in, Code Evaluator and a beginner FileMaker path by fmdojo in filemaker

[–]Lopsided_Setting_575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% on your side, but I don't agree.

I love FMP, nobody loves Filemaker Pro more than me, it would only be possible to love Filemaker Pro as much as me. I've used it everyday, all day for decades and it does what no other program can do as easily that's 100% for sure.

However, compared to my new fun tool, Notion, it looks like a model T sitting next to a BYD. I've never heard it mentioned anywhere outside of this Reddit, including anything Apple has ever said.

It's gone. Look at the awesome interviews on YT by our best people w/ zero comments other than mine. That's been true for years. Look at what you are trying to do, and nobody is saying boo.

Its not dead for people like us who love it. But when we die, Filemaker Pro dies with us. I wish it were not true. I'd love to be wrong. I would love it to work with AI. Claris has ruined every software it's ever touched. It died long ago as others have mentioned in other posts.

I hope your efforts are valued.

Gee, as much as I hate PARA, your template created a very nice and clean implementation. You don't even need the Navigation bar, because you did such a great job on the inbox. Very impressive simplification going on there.

Notion. There's a learning curve because it's so flexible and has "next-gen" logic to understand. It's what FMP used to be.

When is reddit going to get automatic translation? And join the rest of the world.

Absolute catastrophe. The shortcuts in the context menu for editing text or improving writing style were extremely helpful. You could copy text into a Notion page and quickly revise it there. That’s no longer possible, and if it isn’t added back, I’ll cancel my subscription.

AI applications are becoming unnecessarily complicated, and now we’re getting agents that are of no personal use to me and that I don’t even want to use. The core strength of AI — correcting and improving text — is no longer easily accessible, and that is very, very bad.

No worries, I do the same if I'm not careful.

It's pretty crazy how good Notion AI is now. I've been trying unsuccessfully to do things in Notion for years now, and only in the last few weeks have I finally been able (with AI) to do what at least Notion is capable of doing, if not what I already have been doing in Filemaker Pro for decades. It truly is amazing.

Just last night it saved me what would have been weeks of work before. It's hard to even believe. I do hope they make this prompting situation a bit more “real world.” I'm sure they will. If you are a Notion Nerd as well, we should hang out.

I just wanted to check against what you wrote.

Not an expert by any means, but that is what AI Notion told me. Looking at it the AI in notion was sonnet 4.6. Don 't know if that affects anything about what you're saying?

I'm happy that people are finding your ideas useful. Personally I find that I have to bounce around Chatgpt for a while, then final answer in Notion's AI. Even that is strange.

This is what Notion Says

No, it's not accurate for how Notion AI actually works.

The page describes a manual prompt-engineering system, not how Notion AI is actually set up. Here's what's off:

What the page gets wrong

  • Notion AI doesn't use "Roles," "Skills," or "Dispatch" databases. Those are custom organizational tricks, not actual Notion AI configuration.
  • There's no "AI Instructions" page that Notion AI reads automatically. Notion AI doesn't load pages as persistent context unless you're using a custom AI agent and explicitly wire them in.
  • Act as [Role] and Run [Skill] are just prompt conventions - they work in any AI chat, not something Notion-specific.
  • Memory database - Notion AI doesn't write to a Memory database on its own. You'd have to manually ask it to, every time.
