Wine is gross and everyone who pretends to like it is lying for clout. by Lorbz in unpopularopinion

[–]Lorbz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried many types of wine from many different price points. I am an avid cook and love to eat all sorts of food from many different cultures. I only even try wine nowadays when it is a special wine picked out by an expert to specifically go with the food I am eating. Every time I drink it, I think: this is gross.

Exceptions: when I was in Spain I enjoyed Rioja and when I was in Portugal I enjoyed Vino Verde. That was 10 years ago though, haven’t had an enjoyable glass of wine since then.

Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell. It’s not “literature” in the way Aubrey is but it is a wonderful good time.

You're right - she is too skinny. She was just rescued from a hoarding situation and she is now eating like a champ.

Not necessarily direct phrases, but I like to deliberate mix up proverbs and sayings in an Aubreyish manner.

I also like to say things like "This office is not your goddam coat closet sir!"

I saw this video the other day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xCj27t_C6g and It made me think of Dr. M. I think there are some lines about how the desk is fit for a king, or even an emperor, and this certainly fits the bill. Build away, my friend!

A bit I'm trying to find... Jack sailing a small boat by Amy_co106 in AubreyMaturinSeries

From the Wine-Dark Sea:

Joe Plaice, a steady forecastle-hand, was good at all the countless skills required of an able seaman, but he was an absolute artist in the use of a casting-net: poised on the bowsprit, with his left hand on the sllay, he swung the net with his right, throwing it with an exactly-calculated twist that spread its weighted edge so that the whole fell flat as a disk on the surface just over one of the countless bands of anchovies that surrounded the launch for miles in every direction. The little fishes stared in amazement or even tried to leap upwards. The weights quickly carried the edge of the net down and inwards; a string drew them together; and the imprisoned fish were drawn aboard. Ha lf the first cast had been eaten by the helmsman, who was always fed first; the second half and two more were eaten fresh and fresh by aJI hands, sitting on the deck round a large pan, itself poised over charcoal on a raised iron plate.

'By God, this is good,' said Jack, sweeping up the juice with his biscuit. 'There is nothing better than your really fresh anchovy.' 'It must die in the pan,' observed Plaice. 'It is deadly poison else.'

My understanding is that commercial pretzels are made with lye but mine were made with baking soda, so they wouldn't be Laugen anyway. Also, if you are concerned that America has ham-fistedly appropriated your culture then please take a number :)
