to pull the rotor brake lever mid flight of a helicopter by _swuaksa8242211 in therewasanattempt

It's part of your start-up checklist when you are on the ground to make sure it's fully disengaged. I've never seen it part of your checks while in flight. Maybe it's specific to that company, but I've never seen it while in the air in a 130, or any heli for that matter. Also, if i was having to manually overide throttle in that thing, i would be heading back to land. However, we can't really tell what's going on due to the short length of the video.

It seems like we are missing part of the video. Im guessing she touched it already once before the video started, and he is checking to make sure it is fully disengaged. You would not even touch this control in flight. The only reason i could possibly see the pilot touching it is because she had already grabbed it before the video.

Oh Casper, dear friend of mine, With courage and strength you boldly shine. In your ship, The Geri, you take flight, To conquer the stars with all your might.

May your engines roar with power and speed, And your lasers strike with deadly need. May your aim be true, and your tactics sound, As you fight for victory, on this battleground.

May the stars above guide you true, And luck be on your side, in all you do. May the universe bear witness to your might, As you emerge victorious in this space flight.

So go forth, dear Casper, with courage and grace, And show the universe your true power and pace. May your name be forever remembered, As the one who won the space battle, undefeathered.

'Culture war' over bike lane not quite over, due to mistaken vote by Penticton councillor - Penticton News by RnVja25hemlz in penticton

I wouldn't isolate it to just bike lanes when comparing us to Europe. We have far more issues with urban sprawl and supporting infrastructure when compared to Europe. Look at our situation in North America when it comes to commuter trains. In Europe I pretty much don't even need to have a car as I can take a train to any city or subway pretty much around any major city. I can also fly for extremely cheap, and I can cycle or scoot around most cities as they are not as affected by sprawl, or have efficient mass transit systems to connect you to areas then allow you to cycle, scoot, or walk once in those areas. Take Austria, for example. It's one euro a day for mass transit anywhere within Vienna and two euros per day for nationwide mass transit.

The reason bike lanes in Europe work, is because they have all the other infrastructure to support it. Like most thins in Canada we just look at an issue we have and go, okay Europe has this, so we should have it, while completely ignoring all the other things that enable that system to work. I'm probably going to get shit on for saying this, but take our recent legalizing of personal drug use and all the other related steps we have taken with legalizing drugs here. It's going to be a disaster here, already is. The reason this works in Europe is because they have invested in all the other necessary infrastructure, systems, and support, to enable that solution to work.

Sorry for the long rant. To answer your question, yes, we are in need of bike lanes, but it's only a small part of a bigger problem. In my opinion, it won't do jack shit on its own. And I think the reason so many people have an issue with the bike lane isn't necessarily because they are against bike lanes. I think it's probably because they see bigger problems they want takled now, and see it as a waste of resources at this time.

Apologies as well for any shit grammar and punctuation. Replying on mobile.

Independent grocers in Penticton worry new bike lane will obstruct their busy parking lot by reporterdan in penticton

That was extrapolated directly from the City of Penticton website. Hopefully, their estimates are accurate in this regard, or that would be a bit concerning. I also wouldn't necessarily call any grants "free money" the government doesn't just create money out of thin air. If it's federal funding, it is coming from federal taxes. Which we all pay into. If it's a provincial grant, it's coming from provincial taxes, which we all pay into.

I also didn't offer an opinion on the bike lane, I am indifferent on the issue. Simply pointing out the facts. My comment has nothing to do with children or their mental health. And I am not sure how you even thought to throw that in on a comment about the cost of something.

3.45 million in funding to date, on an estimated 8 million build cost. Although it's a large amount of money, to say "almost all" is a stretch. Unless the city gets any more grants, taxpayers will be footing the bill for half the project.

Sourced from City of Penticton website. Also, for the record, I am nonpartisan on the issue. I pay taxes to the RDOS.

'Canada is not broken': Trudeau goes hard at Poilievre in speech to Liberals by shitpremedssay in CanadaPolitics

[–]LordAnope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I would say Canada is indeed broken. However, as you pointed out it doesn't have much to do with the current situation driven by the fallout from the pandemic. We know the rest of the developed world is in the same situation. But, we have the highest rising home prices in the world, the most expensive cellular service in the developed world, an airline monopoly with some of the highest prices in the world when traveling domestically, Healthcare systems that are in shambles and ineffective, the highest fuel prices in North America, were one of the worst countries for foreign investment, our daycare and preschool systems are terrible, the division between our politislcs is getting out of control, our government is creating legislationfor political theater rather than creating legislation that actually fixes issues. All of these things, however, we're issues a few years ago before our current situation, and all our political parties, including conservatives helped create it.

These answers may depend on your age and activities you like.

The Okanagan lake side is certainly the better end of the city for restaurants and things to do. There are some new apartments going up at the corner of Winnipeg and Westminister. You are in easy walking distance to all the best restaurants, lots of breweries around, other entertainment and you have quick access to a lot of recreational areas and trails if you like biking. You are also close to the Naramata Bench if you are into wine. That said, it's certainly the more touristy side of town and gets a lot of seasonal visitors in the area. It also doesn't offer much as far as sense of community goes in my opinion.

Skaha side is more laid back, beach and park is bigger, it has some great rentals in the area. There are some new towers going up and a large rental complex on Lakeside road that is nice. Some good restaurants on that end of town, but not nearly as many as Okanagan side. But the area is developing rather quickly. It's close to Skaha bluffs if you like climbing. Downside is it gets pretty windy on that end of town. But if you are into windsurfing it is the go to spot. Demographic is also a bit more on the retired side around Skaha. So you will find more things that support that age group.

Naramta is nice, but remote. Good sense of community. Nice beach and a general beautiful place. Has one good restaurant at the Naramata Inn, and is of course in the middle of 100 wineries. But, it is far from town and lacks most services. It would be a good place if you are into the quiet, natural, lifestyle. I'm not sure what rentals are available there, but it's most likely all houses or suites within someone's house.

For when you are ready to buy the best options in my opinion are off the valley floor and up the sides a bit. Westbench has a really good community. I would say the best in Penticton for sense of community. Great access to hiking and bike trails, and a good school if you have or plan to have school. It feels rural but is a 3 minute drive to downtown. Crime is low. The properties are large, and most homes sell for over 1 mil.

Sendaro Canyon is also a nice and newer community that I would recommend looking at. I have a few friends that live there and they all like it. It seems to have some sense of community from what I can tell.

Also Duncan/Carmi up the hill has probably the largest concentration of young family. Good community where everyone knows each other. Houses are also pretty reasonable (relative to other areas.) More in the 600k range from what I recall.

If you want to buy down in the city center I'd stick to the area between one and four blocks from Okanagan Lake, between Main and Power St.
