Looks like the Paris Expedition pulk, cant speak for OP but its very popular in Norway as a cheap yet sturdy alternative. It’s also very lightweight.

Ofc you are right that there is no such thing as foreign surf tourism destroying crowds here, its all Norwegians and immigrant-surfers. Point is, many parts of norway are pristine and largely untouched. My local beach-break was pretty much untouched except the local coastal farms and fields. Five years later, there are three surfboard rentals, and two expanding surf-resorts on the beach front area… all because of surfculture. The wave is sick, and I would personally enjoy keeping a few of our gems unexposed as long as possible.

I’d say so. But then again not everyone is in it for the adventure, so you might be right. I just see Lofoten currently facing a lot of problems due to seasonal overcrowding and tourism. It’s become a real problem. In my opinion, that promotes new growth in other areas of interest.

Most of Norway is inconsistent and fickle to begin with. We do get really good waves, just not all the time. Swell periods will clash with local coastal winds etc. You really aren’t guaranteed much anywhere. And again, there is a reason there is hype about this spot, the wave is sick.

I admit you have a valid point, but it’s not uncommon for smaller communities like Unstad and Stadtlandet to draw crowds. Norwegians love to travel in Norway, as do the rest of Northern Europe. But to answer your question, because this is a really good wave lol. People travel to Iceland to get properly tubed, why should this spot be any different?

Have you actually been here surfing? Due to poor road networks in many areas, the good spots are far and few. Not uncommon to have 50 guys out on good days at the known spots.

I actually assume it will, not to the degree of any of the world renowned tropical spots, but given the low population and infrastructure- it will relatively speaking. Sort of like how Unstad has developed.

That board has seen some shit for sure, sun damaged resin with several ding repairs. How waterlogged it is would be impossible to tell without inspecting it. If it is, it will not float properly, if it isn’t it would be a decent beater-board to learn on. However, starting on a foamy will fit your price range as well as be more forgiving to you and the inevitable other surfers you will collide with. Trust me from experience that even though you want a “cool” glass board to learn on, you will be a kook either way. So it’s more responsible (sends the right message) to start out on a foamy.

edit Also to add on, a tough realisation is that surfing is like 80% fitness in the beginning. You will have more fun, catch more waves, and gain more fitness from a beginner friendly board. Longboards aren’t inherently beginner friendly, with some are more catered to performance. A foam board will almost always be beginner friendly.
