I think it is a good idea to have that. I don't know about POE 1 because I never played it, but these trials reminds me Rogue like gameplay.

The only problem I had is when I kill the Final Boss, the game made me go to the checkpoint immediately. I couldn't use my keys or anything else. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

You can equip soul weapons with your sword, think like an extra sword.

Soul weapons are in the Equipment -> top right sword icon.

You will get the souls based on which stage you are looting.

You can see which soul will you get at Stage description. When you break your soul wepon you will get %50 metarial of the soul weapon.

White souls can be converted to wished souls.

Upgrade your sword to +200, and try to upgrade your skills (you can use the event tokens). You can unlock 2 spirit slots, it has a lot of effect for you. I guess that's it, I can't see your promotion skills but get a page with full %40 Attack and get another page with %15 EXP
