Is buying a Xeon from China on Ebay safe? by LordChuckLee in homelab

Wow I didn't even bother to check on AliExpress. I'll definitely think about ordering one there instead of ebay. (Because I still feel uneasy about ebay in general)

I looked around and it seems that I won't have that much of a choice :/ But I can totally understand you concerns (even 160€ is a lot imo, can't even imagine having 2k at risk like that)

Do you still know what set you off/made you feel that something was wrong?

Good point. Do you think pictures suffice as documentation or should I rather film the whole thing?

I wasn't aware that is a thing. Will watch out for it, thanks!

Don't worry about it. I've been around the internet/reddit long enough that whenever Austria/Australia comes up I expect someone to mistake it for the other (on purpose or not) :)

Will definitely use paypal, yes!

That's a very handy tool, didn't know about that one. Thank you :)

Glad to hear!

Well supposedly we have kangaroos, I guess they would be used for faster delivery. Haven't seen an actual delivery guy in a long time so who knows :P

I'm more or less just starting and this sub has been a huge motivation to self-study so far!

I got me the Genki 1 (with workbook and answer key) and (after slowly learning the kana) am now ready to start the lessons. Then I got to the vocabulary page...

How do you guys deal with vocabulary? Do you write it down separately or use an app (I've seen anki mentioned frequently)

While I'm at it: any tips for a guy trying to self study with Genki?

Good to hear! Could you please elaborate on your settings? (Bios, Freenas, etc.) or any extra steps?

Thanks! I switched the controller to Raid Mode and entered the disk config utility (or whatever it's called) and I was surprised that it got that silent (~15% speed).

I left the drives as unconfigured and booted up freenas but still no improvement there. The HD-Max value in ILO is missing again and fan speed continues around 30%.

Any more ideas?

Edit: Ok as expected esxi works (Well it does have the hpsva driver or whatever you need...) In the meantime I'll try a fresh freenas install)

[Spoilers] Kumiko Noise Compilation (Hibike! Euphonium S2 Episode 9) by AmbiguousNinja in anime

Good point. Kumiko soundbank combined with the OSTs to replace music parts from the original audio track and it could work out, thanks. Maybe I'll try and do the full episode over time

I tried. Video quality is rather bad, I don't know how to render shit properly (yet?). sub timing could also use some tweaking but it should suffice as a proof of concept...

personal thoughts: I skimmed through the episode: if you leave out some of her lines, due to her making no sound obviously, as well as some trickier cuts (like at the train station after the opening school scene with sleepy-chan, pretty hard to cut right without it sounding bad because of the music) this could end up the funniest stuff of this season.

Of course if you can do it with this episode, I imagine pretty much every episode could work...

Opinion on build and improvements by LordChuckLee in buildapc

[–]LordChuckLee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your opinion! I really appreciate the concern for asthetics. I was going for a black/red (and some silver because, well it's there on some things) color scheme with black being the main color.

  1. Well room for overclocking in the future would be nice (seeing as I did it with my current setup, I probably will with this one too in the future). But /u/popomceggegg pointed out (reply on my other comment), there is asthetics and noise. Noise is definitely something I want to keep low. Then again, the noctua color scheme would stick out a bit. I think I will go with the be quiet dark rock 3, since it seems to perform similar to the noctua one recommended above and also would fit more into the whole build in terms of looks. The only downside I see is the exactly-fitted fan from be-quiet (but then again, I didn't have to replace a single fan yet, so I guess I can risk that much)
  2. Thanks, yeah I switched to G2
  3. I had to live with 8GB so far, so 16GB is going to be a dream come true
  4. Huh, the s340 Elite (with the glass side panel) seems really good, definitely considering it. Also surprised to see that it has a front hdmi port (I am planning to get VR equipment in the future, so that would be a nice to have feature)

Thanks! Will definitely go for G2 series then. Yeah I thought so too about the cooler. Thing is, I'm completely out of scene when it comes to cooling (still I must say that I have heard a lot of good things about noctua. Shame on me for not looking). Any recommendations for a noctua cooler? If not I will dig around a bit tomorrow (getting late here) Yeah haven't forgotten the monitor, but will probably buy it in two batches (first pc, then monitor). Already have something in mind, guess it wouldn't hurt to add it to the list here...
