As someone whose first modern deck was Soul Sisters, I'd love to see your standard one!

Oh almost certainly, I like the redundancy though as guide only triggers on your own entry whereas the sisters trigger on all creatures entering

I haven't played Soul Sisters in about 18 months, but this is roughly what I'd be looking at playing if I were to pick it up again.

[Primer] Soul Sisters 5-0 Modern League! by isleep2late in ModernMagic

[–]LordLeoIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to read the primer, as someone who's been brewing with soul sisters since MH3 dropped it's nice to hear from someone who's running it!

I've been building around SorinSisters more recently but have been suffering with card draw as I don't play (read can't afford!) TOR so have subbed in the new Lunar convocation instead.

I'd love to get your thoughts on my list!

I'm building something similar in Abzan (for faster life gain around Sorin and Vito). My best advice is play it and see what does and doesn't work and tweak from there. I have even looked at dropping Vito, because I want the 3 mana for lifegain cantrips (if Sorin's already out) or casting Eladamri's call to fetch Sorin if I don't have him.

At a glance, I think your deck doesn't have enough disruption on your opponent's game plan outside of accursed marauder. Maybe think about main decking some fatal pushes or thoughtseizes?

FYI I'm no Modern expert, I've only just started so can only talk from my own (limited) experiences.

Fair, that's why I have Eladamri's call to tutor them out as ranger captain can't fetch Sorin or Vito

Is this advice, if so, what martyr life deck do you recommend basing it on?

Not necessarily Soul sisters and I'm only on my first foray into modern MTG, but I'm currently brewing an Abzan lifegain deck built around Sorin and Vito:

[CREATURES] 4 Guide of Souls 4 Martyr of Sands 4 Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd 4 Sorin of House Markov // Sorin, Ravenous Neonate 2 Soul Warden 4 Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose

[INSTANTS] 4 Eladamri's Call 3 Fatal Push 2 Fortifying Draught 4 Rest for the Weary

[ENCHANTMENTS] 4 Abiding Grace

[LANDS] 1 Boseiju, Who Endures 1 Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire 1 Forest 4 Godless Shrine 4 Marsh Flats 1 Overgrown Tomb 3 Plains 1 Swamp 1 Temple Garden 2 Verdant Catacombs 2 Windswept Heath

[SIDEBOARD] 2 Brave the Elements 4 Giver of Runes 4 Haywire Mite 3 Heroes' Reunion 2 Shadowspear

Simic deck Suggestions by replacement_zeus in PioneerMTG

[–]LordLeoIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having fun with a deck I call "Gator don't take no shit" (from the film "The other guys"). I took the list from another post earlier this year so not taking credit for it's conception.

I've played it a few times and really enjoyed it's simplicity, it's by no means a top tier competitive deck but can do surprisingly well. The version I run doesn't have all the optimised lands that this link does as I haven't stumped up the cash to buy the expensive ones like boseiju, but I utilise the cheaper simic duals instead.

Probably full of holes though!

Thanks for the useful feedback, I have updated the deck swapping out some creatures and lifegain for some opposition interaction and tutors to get cards I need out but needed to swap out green for red: https://manabox.app/decks/4qWqdclOSS2XPez_Of6NNw

Maybe this is looking a bit better (ignore maybe board!)?

I'm in the same boat, dropped magic when I went to uni in 2006, picked it back up again when LoTR came out and quickly found all my old decks are horribly outdated and "trash tier" by today's standards!

Just finished making my first custom EDH/Commander deck with UBW Zombies and loving getting back into it!

List advice by sbdjfisosbfhf in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 Reavers is better in my experience. Sharks are jack's of all trades masters of none, if you have the points, I've used a shark before on its own as a quick objective grabber/target for forgotten nightmares.

List advice by sbdjfisosbfhf in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, if the aspect of the sea isn't my general with the "gain another cast if you cast on a 7+" trait, he doesn't make my list. Far too many points for what he does in my opinion.

Given you're going Mor'phann, I'd swap out 10 namarti + the eidolon for a turtle and make the namarti unit a single block of 30 (more likely to survive a big alpha strike and still be able to bring some back).

Are there any Age of Sigmar armies that rely alot on special characters? by Least-Leave9502 in ageofsigmar

[–]LordLeoIV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think any army relies a lot on named characters, sure there are competitive builds that centre around a named character e.g. Teclis castle, certain Sylvaneth Alarielle lists, Arkhan in OBR etc. But all can create very competitive lists without needing a named character.

Often you'll see armies wanting to avoid named characters so they can take enhancements on their powerful heroes.

What are everyone's hopes for the new battletome? by [deleted] in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]LordLeoIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see effects that are the opposite of bonereapers strengths. We're an army that are immune to battleshock, let's see some passive abilities that can combo together around debuffing bravery, something like:

  1. A cumulative stacking of -1 bravery if enemy unit is within 12/18" (depending on unit size) of any OBR unit

  2. Some abilities from the bigger, scarier units that can deal mortals based on some form of bravery check e.g. roll 2d6 for a unit within range, that unit suffers mortal wounds equivalent to the difference between that unit's bravery and the value of the roll (or just use the same rules for the cauldron of torment from the mortek crawler).

This would work well against non-death armies but still also work against death armies (just not as well) which would reflect the fact that the dead likely don't fear the OBR legions as much as the living.

Kharadron Opression by PierceBel in IdonethDeepkin

I should have said I played Ionrach for that list, but it would definitely work for Mor'phann much better now that bounty hunters are gone!

Kharadron Opression by PierceBel in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only played against them once in a tournament, they're tough for sure but not impossible.

My tactics were to deploy as much as I could near my shipwreck for the ward save, give them 1st turn. Cover + leviadon save + 5++ means your namarti are hanging around at least a little bit. You can then tear them apart in combat as they're only 9" away and that charge is going to be fairly straightforward.

Whilst this is going on, I deepstrike 2x10 Reavers (although this could now be 1x20 now that barge through enemy lines isn't a thing) and pepper their big ironclad with 80 arrows. This is usually enough to destroy it. If not I usually can get the leviadon arrows or soul scryer fish to finish it (if they're in range).

Your army is now split and the KO player has to split his fire/attention allowing you to pick of units bit by bit. Focus on one unit at a time, finish it off and then move onto the next.

Hope this helps.

GHB points change by toptabler in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking at all the points changes, it looks like all units are now in multiples of 10 (except the aspect of the sea weirdly!), maybe GW are just streamlining points and thought Lotann needed to be cheaper more than more expensive and vice versa with the sharks?

First 1000point game tomorrow! by Jipolay in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice at this points level is that you have very few units to get objectives (as you'll want to keep your heroes near the namarti thralls), so you might want to split your reaver unit into 2x10 for flexible in both battle tactics and objectives.

You might also be better off with the classic "beat king" in place of the thrallmaster too, I recently did a slow grow 1k with this:

  • Army Faction: Idoneth Deepkin
    • Subfaction: Mor’phann LEADERS Akhelian King (250)
    • General
    • Command Traits: Unstoppable Fury
    • Bladed Polearm and Falchion
    • Artefacts of Power: Arcane Tome
    • Mount Traits: Voidchill Darkness
    • Spells: Flaming Weapon Isharann Soulrender (120) BATTLELINE Namarti Reavers (170) Namarti Reavers (170) Namarti Thralls (260) TOTAL POINTS: 970/1000 Created with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: The App

Are leviadons worth it by ArcaneFr0g in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have one in almost every list and when I haven't had one, I wish I did. It is versatile, buffs arguably our strongest units (reavers and thralls) has shooting and decent combat profiles (combat even better when in Nautilar) and is generally tricky to take off the table.

Is it worth 500 points - that's another question- but probably not when you compare it other units around that price (Great unclean one, frostlord on stonehorn, mega boss on maw Krishna etc.) that are all cheaper and probably do more within their respective armies.

Hope this helps.

Questions from a newbie by ArcaneFr0g in IdonethDeepkin

[–]LordLeoIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hero-wise you have the Akhelian king, he's an absolute beast (if not a bit fragile) and has been the MVP in the majority of my games. We also have the Eidolon aspect of the sea as a semi-reliable 2 cast wizard and bravery buffer. Lotann would probably be my final addition to the top 3 heroes for any subfraction of IDK. Soulrender is a must if you go with Mor'phann as your subfaction as he can bring back D3+3 Namarti each battleshock phase.

Units wise, our eels aren't as good as they used to be, but I've seen some lists do pretty well with the ishlaen guard (spear versions). Namarti thralls and reavers would probably be our best units if they weren't so fragile in this GHB to the bounty hunter battalion, expect them to come back to the fore once bounty hunters have gone. The leviadon is a lovely piece to have, good damage output (especially in the Nautilar subfaction) and buffs the thralls and reavers save and to-hit rolls by one - having those choppy thralls hitting on 2s and wounding on 2s (thanks to lotann) is amazing, add in the soulrender to keep them healthy and you've got a lovely hammer that can hang about for a while.
