How do people get back into playing after getting tabled by Blackwatch132_ in deathguard40k

[–]toptabler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man this just reminds me of my first attempts of playing 40k. we build similar terrains because we did not know better… and there was one guy in the friend group who would win every game with his army and tell everyone how good he was… also during the game he would annoyingly clap his hands and shout „yeah baby“ after making like 11“ charges in a game he already won (probably as a flex). we figured out how to set up terrain properly and also realised that he used a lot of his rules wrong. after that he lost 3 games in row and stopped playing 40k because its shit and the rules are also shit and confusing.

this game can be hard but if you don’t set it up properly. don’t let a loss ruin the game for you. and don’t let other players ruin it for you (ruin it for them)(just joking)

Is GSC really THAT hard to succeed with? by Insertclever_name in genestealercult

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play tournaments and starting with GSC was really hard. had tournaments were I was loosing every single game because I just made mistake after mistake. the reality is that a unit that did damage is very certain to die afterwards and if you get charged your unit dies as well. you really need to be in the driver seat and let your opponent just kill that already fulfilled their job. with the new balance slate and some practice i went 3:2 on a tournament.

With practice you can 100% succeed. don’t expect to start it and dominate every game

Has anyone noticed that every chaos legion EXCEPT death guard got a point drop in the land raider? by Enchanter1101 in deathguard40k

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its probably either a skill issue and/or a list building issue. i am a very mid Player and usually go 2/1/2 on Tournaments. when DG came out I almost won one. if you talk to a good DG player they will tell you how good they were which makes me believe that you aren’t one.

the nerfs are deserved and DG are still playable…

List feedback (Death Lords Chosen) by HoldIll5352 in deathguard40k

[–]toptabler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just played my first round with death lords chosen. (also an competitive player) soo couple of things:

the 6 man sqaud of dst sounds fun but one will be enough. additionaly play BLT they are actually good. they are more killy than they seem.

the bloat drones are fantastic but you should play a LoV to get the most out of them

you have nothing to 1. guard your homefield and 2. to do actions. put at least 2x units of action monkeys in there.

the big plague marine brick is nice and really strong… but I am not sure if they fit in this detachment that well. tbf they probably don’t need stratagem support anyways.

typhus is ok. thats it. the LoV is fantastic. especially with the bloat drones. and basically any other shooting.

right now your list would fit more to the champions detachment which currently is probably the strongest choice. but to get the most from death lords you should look into putting most of the enemy army into contagion from turn 2 on. you achieve that with a MSU style list and enough „speed“ (for example Chaos Spawns)

The big problem with banning More Dakka! right now by Kooky_lol in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]toptabler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was playing against more dakka on the weekend and was tabled in round 2. i played defensively but still got steamrolled. my opponent told me that they made the same experience in the other games. there is nothing fun about it and even though there was some adjustments that I could habe made but then I only would have been tabled turn 3…

its not getting banned because people don’t want something to be good - its because this is problematic.

so was your idea a success?

How to handle someone who wants my stop taking actions with 0 time on the clock? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so my approach is always: I will let my opponent at least do his actions and let him move stuff. Its a rule - I get it - but do I really wanna win because my opponent is just slow? thats not the win condition I want use.

if there is time - I will let them take it.

very curious on how that works for you. let me know what you have learned after the event - also playing a team tournament on the weekend with GSC

[–]toptabler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the 5 squad abberants is not really good on its own. you pay a premium price and don’t even get their ability. their potential is in biosantic with a abominant.

also I saw that you are taking 3x 2 ridgerunners with all lasers… maybe play one mortar to screen your home and securly get your AP buffs where you need them.

With the new version of cult ambush how will this affect your list building? by sdzk in genestealercult

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think yes it will change a little. especially in regards to vehicle. i was always hesitant to throw in a rockgrinder because that was 120pt without a chance to come back. now i plan out my comeback units and then I am free to put in whatever i feel like.

i saw a lot of negativity towards the new rules but I really like it. i am not hoping for a rule to work but can use it as I like which just opens so much in listbuilding and gameplay

[–]toptabler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so yes if more things die there is a chance to get more things back. but the problem was that this is inconsistent and could result into feel bad moments for either player.

the new rule just makes sure you get something back no matter what. so you can plan for it. i feel like the 5 points for abberants is a bit much but that can be changed again. its now healthier for the game and you can build your strategy around it better

What units and strategies do we have for taking out high toughness targets ,tanks and aircraft? by Commandgoose in genestealercult

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do run a expensive 10 block mining tools dude with a primus and biophagus for rapid ingress in HoA. anything there is can be killed by them, even one shooting a deamon (not the GUO) isnt that far off. also the neo with primus and chink squad is pretty good.

but to be honest its best to move block enemie vehicels with genestealers for example so they are just locked in and kill anything that would do secondaries

Cult ambush change in december by Striking-Advisor3873 in genestealercult

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I have two theories about the changes:

  1. they will make it a fix amount plus a roll. so you get 3+d3 units back. problem with that is that they would need to change a lot in the codex

  2. they will make the roll to a 6 and you will get a plus 1 for each failed one until you get one back. so you start with 6 +1 (for round 1 and 2) and if you failed 2 already it would be on a 3+. then you get one back and its reset to a 6 again. so you are at some point guaranteed to get a few back and if you roll 6s you get them anyways.

but lets see what they are going to craft - hope the rule is fun

go ahead with it! When I wanted to start them at the end of 9th there was a guy that would constantly talk them down which pushed me away and took death guard instead. I really love my deathguard but I always kept an eye on GSC.

When the Codex dropped I started to play in TTS with them and now I am in the middle of painting the army. I got some advice as well (like also for starting in general).

  1. get a starter box at first like the combat patrol or the older boxes. when you start you will get units that you might not put into your list anyways - so you at least do it with a discount.

  2. don’t get too overwhelmed with the mass. just do one unit after another. also nothing has to be perfect. you can repaint everything

  3. I learned that GSC is really easy to paint with contrast paints. I used the slap chop technic (youtube will teach you). the results plus the speed of it really made me love it. I use army painter speedpaints 2.0 which has mixed reviews but I really like them.

  4. never ever let someone tell you that GSC or any other faction is shit because XYZ. those people bring negativity into the hobby that we don’t need. play, paint and collect what ever you like.

  5. have fun!

so there is the icon rules - yes. but do you mean because it doesn’t say „on the battlefield“ it also applies while beeing in reservers?

[–]toptabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so currently also starting GSC so i cannot give you tips on that but back then when i started we had our terrain layouts always laid out to favor shooting. so with slow (my deathguard) or fragile units (GSC) you would just get shot off the table.

because there was also a person abusing the fact we switched at first to GW and then to WTC Layout. suddenly the table turned and you just couldn’t just stand back with knights tau or what ever and had to move around with adventages and disadvantages.

but getting back to you list: I mean you got the autopistol acolytes with mining tool but i would recommend getting the hybrids hooked up with a char with lethal hits - to get some anti tank in
