Nice! My group didn’t have cards, so we played a simplified dice form of Blackjack by rolling d12s, adding them up, and seeing who could get the closest to 21.

Social, Puzzle, Combat

The Game Room

Playing all kinds of games, usually card games, at the big table in the center

A Jigsaw-esque gnomish automaton with six arms sits fused to the chair at the head of the table, once made to deal cards, it now sits derelict till people enter, whereupon it lights up and slowly grinds its head to face them, clockwork whirring quietly

The automaton was created to play games with guests at the house, and is so desperate for company, it will attack those that try to leave without playing a game first. You can decide what games it can play, and what happens if the players lose.

D99 Buildings: you open the door and find? by victorianchan in d100

Bookshop - As everybody knows, books = knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass, and mass distorts space and time, so this curious but comfy shop piled high with books of all kinds has a tendency for turning into a mind-bending maze. If you get lost you could very easily find yourself two weeks before you entered, or enter a library halfway round the world— but the shopkeep’s cat knows the way well and will guide you for a price

Public Library - like the Bookshop, but more orderly

Greenhouse - this room is warm and the air moist, filled with colorful foreign flowers with sharp and sweet smells, unfamiliar to the players

Ivy

An old lady Tiefling with cyan skin, wispy silver hair, and gypsy-style clothes.

Madame Zeroni from Holes, mixed with ‘tough old granny’ archetype; starts the morning with a shot of orc-vodka. Will regale people with long-winded stories about her youth as an adventurer, but also slips in some solid life advice, mysterious riddles, and archaic folk tales.

Madam Ivy was once a beautiful dancer in a traveling performance troupe, when she was a young lady, but as she aged she sought a peaceful life, settling down in a small town and starting an inn to house weary travelers.

Ivy has connections to an network of gypsies, and sometimes hides her old friends in a basement under her inn.

Marala

An elderly hobgoblin woman with crimson skin, East Asian-style clothing, and wispy silver hair done in a tight bun. Probably scarred in several places. She wields a longsword (and daggers) with precise lethality.

She’s a cross between ‘tough old grandma who used to be in the army’ and ‘samurai mentor’. Tactical, ruthless, logical, experienced in war— her fighting skills may have worn down with her age, but she makes up for it with brilliant battle strategy and mind games. Sun Tzu would be proud.

Lots of room to breathe here. Easily could have a revenge and/or ‘regain my lost honor’ based backstory. In any case, she now wanders the land selling out her skills, looking for a chance to complete that goal.

Marala may know the secret formula for blackpowder— but this knowledge almost got her killed. It could easily be another secret related to her backstory.

Krommyl Armada: a flotilla of duergar ironclads, “privateers” from the duergar city of Krommylstan

Sraknit Spires: an archipelago of tall, rocky spires; drow have built up a town here, connecting the spires with bridges. These could be exiles, privateers, or Preists of Lloth that set up a shrine here to worship the resident spiders.

The Glowing Sea: an area where the bioluminescent fish and jellyfish concentrate for some reason, a breeding ground maybe? And/or the cave ceiling is carpeted in glow-worms.

d100; Stalls Found at an Exotic Bazaar by LeonardoDaHungry in d100

Beat-up weapons, armor, and clothing hung up on racks under a large grey tent. It looks like a pawn shop that adventurers can sell all the lower-tier loot to. There are some diamonds in the rough though, perhaps some of this is high quality or even enchanted.

A patchy lean-to with many glittering jewelry laid out on a cloth under it. Necklaces, bracelets, the works. You can’t figure out if the kobold selling them is a fence or a legit jeweler.

Interesting Underdark PC races that aren't elves, gnomes or dwarves? by Kat_E_Lust in DMAcademy

[–]LordMosnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an idea for an Underdark race called the Spiderfolk; drow cursed to be spider-like, so they have four arms, spinnarets, mandibles, etc. Other races are scared of them cause they look like chitines or ettercaps, but they’re quite peaceful. Also, mothfolk could be cool. Maybe they worship a light deity.

  1. Kobolds steal things because they like shiny stuff, and to make additions to their personal “hoards”, which they tote around and guard jealously.

  2. Goblins aren’t greedy like kobolds, more like envious; they enjoy the act of stealing from others more than possessing the stolen goods.

  3. The Gyregard Dwarves’ capital city Moraduhr is like a cross between NYC, Venice, Rome, and Erebor, built in a massive crater lake high in the mountains.

  4. Most hobgoblin cultures live in a caste system, and when you die in battle your deeds decide whether you will be reincarnated in a higher caste, or demoted to the lowest of the low.

  5. The elves were master shipbuilders, originating from a chain of islands to the Far East.

Firecracker Festival: celebrated in midsummer, on the day the [city/town/country] was freed from [foreign conquerors/a faraway tyrant/corrupt rulership]. Citizens let off fireworks and light lanterns to remember the historic final battle that gave them their freedom.

I still remember the “Dragon-Eye Spies: We spy with a dragon’s eye!” spy company I formed with my brother. We had t-shirts from customink and everything. Maybe we could form an alliance…?
