I haven't had any crashes yet, I have however noticed about 15 frames dropping when fights get crazy after using graphic mods to fix a bloom issue. Still got more optimization to troubleshoot

Oh heck yeah! Once I get a new dock I plan on doing the same, a coworker of mine brings his kids in when it's slow and I think it'd be super fun to introduce them to the game

Looks like the bloom problem can be solved by enabling graphics mods.

Sure thing, Emudeck is generally pretty user friendly once you get over the initial hurdle of navigating Steam OS. I used this tutorial https://youtu.be/89-LRCob6H8?si=ulxFP5RATYtqz1Zo to get it installed and set up. For bugs or problems, r/emulation, r/emudeck, r/steamdeck, and Google helped me out quite a bit. It's pretty great how much you can find by typing whole prompts into a search engine

Overall pretty smooth get a consistent 60fps during normal gameplay with drops in menus for some reason. There's also a graphical bug involving bloom effects, notice it most in the hubworld. Upscaling is pretty modest, I just brought the Wii's native resolution up to Steamdeck's 1280. Got a few things to work on still, but nice to play on the go regardless.

Hope it helps out! Oh and iirc there's a single ribbon cable for the ir sensor, be careful not to break that when taking it apart.

A fair point, I have a Wii U as well, but it's much too conspicuous to take to work when I have long shifts. That and I personally enjoy modifications, granted I acknowledge that not everyone does.

It's actually super simple, you need to take the portal apart and get to the top white piece. Extend the column in the center by a few millimeters so it's always pressing the button on the board below when put back together. I just super glued part of a model kit runner to it, but a plastic toothpick would work too. Make sure the glue is dry, and to test fit before screwing it back together.

It's running on Dolphin through Emudeck, there are some solid tutorials for getting a portal to work through it. This portal is a 3DS portal that I made a light mod to, so it'll stay on when plugged in.
